They weren't a disaster to nearly this degree before they widened 385 at the interchange. Before it would be slow, but not backup onto the interstate unless there were multiple wrecks. Now that cars don't trickle through 385/85 split, they all get to Simpsonville's 3 exits at the same time, causing them to backup 20 cars deep onto the interstate.
That's an interesting take. Seems the bottleneck at 85/385 during the evening commute staggered the southbound traffic which inadvertently made those exits easier to manage. I agree with many others in this thread including you, that this state has a lot of work to do on improving most of our interstate interchanges and exits.
Don’t want to get political here but really don’t think this is appropriate. Did he really have anything to do with it?
Having something to do with it is not the point. There are tons of places named after presidents that have nothing to do with what they are renaming.
Most recently, President Obama has a highway in LA, several busy roads in IL, IN and FL. Many schools and even has animal species named after him, like placida barackobamai, a sea slug.

Some might find it extremely appropriate that the third most dangerous intersection in the country is named after him. Greenville has three of the top 10 in fact, which is a horrible indictment of the state of the roads around here.

I'll bet $1000 the high 2019 crash total for the interchange was due to the bottleneck at the exit from I-85 south to I-385/Woodruff in the old configuration. There was a wreck there at least every other day.

What I don't get are why two politicians from Anderson and Laurens are concerned about naming an interchange in Greenville county. Shouldn't that be the input of Greenville officials? I do like when they name roads and bridges to honor fallen law enforcement.
Reason why they would try to pass H5009 is easy: they’re both up for re-election this fall.
