There was also the factor of poor timing involved. Queen Lilioukalani wrote a letter to the U.S. president expecting him to get his people in line and get the monarchy restored without bloodshed, but there was some sort of upset in Washington at the time, although I forget just what. Elections, sickness, something or other that kept them from addressing her concerns right away. By the time they got around to dealing with the overthrow it had already been awhile so they just did nothing.
Still, if one is going to be king or queen, one should be able to defend the throne against usurpers where ever and how ever they show up. Kamehameha took the chiefdom from his uncle, wasn't it? The title followed who ever took it so that was sort of the established way. In de facto if not in law. I'm surprised the Committee of Safety didn't try to establish themselves as some sort of collective ruler.
Hawaiian By Heart, I am going to ask you a very important question and even though you usually never really answer the questions that people post here to you, PLEASE answer this one.
What percentage of people that actually live in Hawaii today do you think agree with you that Hawaii should be given back to the Native Hawaiians?
(I know there is no way of knowing for sure but please just take a moment, sit down and try to seriously give thought to this. Then please give us your best estimate.)
It is obvious you still don't get it. For example, the several years, was a way of stating the case, i.e. understating the case, with a bit of humor. You didn't get - Par, but not Jack Paar, for the course.
One example is enough to set the tone. More of your "Can't see the forest for all those damn trees". Give Wiki a rest, at least for now. CYA.
It's obvious that you don't get it either. You haven't been posting here long enough to successfully carry off attempts at humor just yet and don't appear to have mastered the use of "emoticons."
Perhaps your time would be better spent if you gave this topic a rest and go stuffed some sausage or something, since you don't seem to know what course you're playing on.
Hopefully, you'll be able to make intelligent comments without than snide remarks, putdowns, and insults after a break.

Thank you kindly for your words of advice. I will give them some serious consideration and then act accordingly.
Okay, consideration over.
I've decided not to stuff any sausage, but I might make a loaf of headcheese.
Good luck with your emoticons and Wiki and whatever trifles amuse you.
CYA
And have a great day.
BTW, there is no serious discussion here, just back and forth about a fairy tale. If you don't like my humor, feel free to not laugh.' 'BCYNYA

I mentioned Grover Cleveland's cancer surgery and the U.S. economic crisis at the time earlier in this thread.

The "Committee of Safety" established the "Provisional Government of Hawai'i" with Sanford B. Dole as the head. Realizing that "Provisional Government" didn't sound "established" enough, they drafted a constitution and became known as the "Republic of Hawaiʻi" with Sanford B. Dole as the "president."

Nah, itʻs all in "good fun."
I was hoping that he learned how to properly defend his "perspective" after all this time. It doesn't take much effort to research Kenneth R. Conklin and use his stuff to attempt to defend an anti-Hawaiian sovereignty viewpoint.

I use my own logic and common sense, and, of course, the lessons of history. Statehood was the best thing ever to happen to Hawaii.
It was there country, goverment etc that was being replaced. Not the 23% of the population who were out-of-state residents at the time of the election etc etc? Talk about rigging the table to your favor?
And creation/development of a Monarchy is not "rigging the table"?
Seems to me a Monarchy is as much of a rigged game as someone can create for themselves.
