I've been quite miserable with allergies since early Feb. They started a month early here because we had a very mild winter and nothing really froze.

Very bad year for allergies everywhere. Allergist said he has been swamped for a month already.

One of my friends once said she would like to move to Vegas because her husband has really bad allergies and they would go away if they moved. Um, no they won't! But how bad they are depends on what you are specifically allergic to. For me in the spring it is tree pollen, and it seems to be specifically oak that is really the bad guy for me. I'm likely allergic to others, too, of course, but the fact that there are 2 big oaks in the back yard and my allergies got suddenly worse exactly 5 years ago when I moved here gives me a clue. So, if I live someplace where there are no or at least fewer oak trees, I'll likely find some relief.

In Sept I was in Vegas and still had allergy symptoms (I get them in the fall, too, just much milder than in the spring) but my symptoms were MUCH less than when I was at home.

My husband has horrible allergies. Since he moved there, they have been non existent UNTIL this year. He was miserable. He went to the pharmacist and they gave him some recommendations for OTC stuff and he said it worked like a charm. Comes to MI for a long weekend and the moist, moldy, air kills him. I don't suffer allergies too much, thank God.

I have tried various OTC stuff and all of them just make me feel worse, knock me out, or both. So, unfortunately I have to just deal with the symptoms and suffer until they finally pass.

Usually every spring I develop a bad cold, which I suspect is due to my immune system being over worked from dealing with the allergies. This past week I was home from work for 2 days with a bad cold and slight fever, not fun.

In the paper this morning, first recorded suicide jump from the Hoover Dam bypass bridge. Police spent 30 minutes trying to talk the woman down before she jumped about 9pm. She was identified as 60YO Patricia Oakley of San Jose, CA!

The Golden Gate bridge would have been a lot closer, makes you wonder if she came all the way down here for that purpose.

Well, we're out of here in the morning for a month. We fly to Miami tomorrow morning to spend a week visiting family & friends, take in a Marlins game or two over the weekend, and maybe even get in some poker with the fish at the Miccosukee Indian casino at the edge of the Everglades. (Some of the worst poker players on the planet, lol.) Then we board a cruise ship for a couple of quick Caribbean stops in San Juan and St. Maartin, followed by a transatlantic voyage to Spain. We'll then spend a week in the south of Spain before ending our trip with a few days in Madrid visiting an old friend before flying back home.

See you all in a month.
