Re: Post Office boxes - you can't have packages (UPS/FedEx) delivered there. A Private Mail Box is much more practical for LVDs situation, IMO.

state law provides that you have unfettered access to your mail...and that the landlord provides an acceptable mailbox.....

Maybe this applies to you?
Something wrong with the whole thing either way.
Goo luck

I don't think it's totally outrageous for LVD to expect his mail to be safely delivered to his residence
without having to pay for a box. There are advantages to having a private mailbox but I've never heard of an apartment not having secured boxes for mail delivery.

Go to the post office, ask them to hold your mail. Wait a week go to post office and see if you have any mail.

Thanks for the help everyone. This ain't right. The main thing I am now worried about is my social security card being taken for identity theft purposes. This is a big pain in the ass. I will call the social security office tomorrow, and now I am going to have to go to the post office and have them hold my mail. I already got the Cox and electric bill paid and taken care off in the future. I guess I will just have to deal with not getting mail in the future.

you will always fail when you try to "talk sense" into someone who is already reality based.

Prove that you're reality based, whoever you are. I can prove to you that you don't know what you're talking about. What's more, the Red Sox are not what you think they are. It's all a lie. A
big stinking lie. All teh Red Sox players care about are themselves. And they're really not that good, are they?

Again, the simplicity in which Jesus taught had never been seen before he entered the world scene. Yet what he had to say confounded them. All they cared about was raping the people for their money. Stupid people, those that only care about money. And sex. And food. And new cars. And big cities for gambling. Prostititution. Sexually-transmitted diseases. Smut.

Junk. Dead-ends. Nothingness. Dark side ahh the moon. No future dere, deadheads.

Wise up. Before it's too late.

Absolutely. In an age where the post office is going with huge boxes that a few dozen people can get their mail in including small parcels who live in those neighborhoods, something is just not clicking here. One thing for sure, the USPS sure can't say they don't have the money to put one in there (well maybe not as they seem to be continuously running a huge deficit) I don't know how many small towns I've been through in my home state where entire post offices have been replaced by building brand new post offices.

It's kind of sad that an individual would have to pay money to insure mail delivery by getting their own box, and the boxes themselves have sure gone up just like stamps, packaging, etc. But if that's what it takes...

LVD, have you contacted the postmaster in your local post office about it? Have you talked to your other neighbors? There is something that just is not right here.

LVD,

Do a test.... send yourself some kind of official looking mail and see if it arrives. If it doesn't, you have your answer.

He said he never filled out a change of address form. So his mail is still going to the old place. As to new things going to his new apt, i would contact the post office about that and tell them what is going on. I bet they used to have mailboxes at that apt complex and they could have gotten broken into one too many times so they removed them.
Get a p.o box or mail box. Some grocery stores in that area have them inside on one side.
Check with your immediate neighbor, the one that's lived there for 13 years. Maybe he runs an id theft ring and has your ss card. Now that would really suck.

Move or get a PO Box, and file a complaint with the Post Office. Maybe they'll investigate it. I don't think the apartments can do that legally, but maybe I'm wrong.

Maybe you can arrange to pick up your mail at the PO. I know a lot of people use General Delivery, but that doesn't look good to employers and creditors.
