Just curious on where other places stand and what they are doing at this point.
We've been open since May with reduced capacity, and the longest I wear a mask at a restaurant is 20 seconds. A few restaurants closed their doors because they weren't getting enough customers to cover the cost of their staff. A few of those have turned to boutique takeout which is keeping them afloat, and added a new business line for them. Tables are either around 6ft apart (give or take a foot or two) or have a barrier between booths, usually plexiglass or something like a nice clear shower curtain. Every restaurant we frequent except for two have closed for a few days every once in awhile when staff tests positive, and the crowds are back as soon as they open.

Here's something we've heard from several restaurant owners, they're doing better business now than they did this time of year pre-COVID. While they reduced their "inside" dining their outside dining often makes up for it and even allows them to serve a greater number of people by using those heated tents and even under the stars using heaters. Add that onto the takeout orders, which don't make as much money and you're doing OK.

The events and convention businesses are starting to reopen, those hurt a lot of city businesses when they were shutdown. The theaters are reopening (yeah we have actual theaters in the city ).

At the gym the allowed capacity was 30% but never got close to that and classes were restricted to 9 people plus one instructor. It's now been increased to 14 people plus one instructor. At first we didn't have to wear a mask in the weight room but that changed in the fall, but if you're on cardio equipment or a class then you don't have to wear one.

Also it's best to make reservations, everywhere. It might seem like a hassle but that part has been pretty good, especially at the DMV.

Companies here are wrestling with the best way to reopen. I work fully remote so I'm good and my wife is in the office three times per week. Others are still closed and one reopened 100% and is now having a problem retaining employees.

Richmond city also got a double hit with the BLM riots and the pulling down of Confederate statues last summer and many businesses in those areas shut down for good from the physical damage done to their businesses. But the statues are gone so maybe this summer will be quieter.

So that's a rundown of what things have been like for the last year.

Here is the reason the Villages have been partying for months. It’s also pretty well known places with warm weather have not been affected nearly as bad.

What’s with the Fauci hate? Is it because, he never joined the cult?

/\ No doubt Florida’s (R) Governor has been receiving all sorts of vocal (to the point of hysterical) criticism from the left since (and before) the Covid crisis began.

New York’s (D) Governor, in sharp contrast, received months and months of praise and adulation from the left dating back to the start of the Covid crisis.

Who says you can’t trust the leftist press (NYT, WAPO, AP, legacy networks, CNN, MSNBC, etc.) establishment?

Fauci was asked this exact question about Texas and Florida this week and he said he has no answer on why there was no outbreak. Just crazy how this works.
My niece and nephew got covid and their parents never did. It’s not a big house. They were all home all day. Once diagnosed my nephew stayed in his room. Niece would watch tv with mom but wore a mask and they moved furniture farther apart. It is a real head scratcher.

Why compare the US to a 3rd world slum? I’d of used India myself but, the warm parts of the US, where many social gatherings are outdoors and density is low never got hit hard.

Are you saying the report is inaccurate? What news sources do you trust?

It certainly appears that way.

NO, it's because he's constantly pontificating one day, that THIS is what has to be done, it's cast in stone, then two days later, he says, "Forget that, and now do this"....

Yes, most of us understand that this is a fluid situation, and things do change, sometimes on a daily basis. However, a credible person will tell you, UP FRONT, that things will change, possibly on a daily basis, as more research uncovers more information. But, if they're wise, they never use absolutes, when they describe what needs to be done. It just makes them look foolish, while, purposely or not, they attempt to sound like authorities on the subject.

Can you provide some examples? If Fauci isn’t an authority on the subject who is?

You can be both an authority on a subject but still not be a reliable source, and Fauci's reliability as a source has been established as questionable at best.
These days you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a COVID expert or authority, and they often contradict each other, or are misinterpreted by journalists. The public has to get educated on what science is, what studies are and how to look things up that they don't know about. In other words, don't listen to experts on the news without a filter.
