Given infidelity rates in western Christian culture, I find it rather rich that people still think that "old fashioned values" are proven perfection.

Whether or not my neighbor is going full 'Sodom and Gomorrah' next door is not really any of my concern, assuming everything is consensual.

Good luck getting insurers to agree to this.

For what it's worth, my limited sample size suggests most of these relationships are driven by the female partner's wants/interests. Not surprising given the bisexual rate for women is significantly higher than men. The men in these relationships comply for, what I assume, are the same motivations which cause an entity like Pornhub to have daily web traffic exceeding 120 million ... why not more?

I know of a polyamorous family in Somerville. It seems ridiculous. A marriage should be between two people. And yes it seems like it could be used in a scam.

What’s next people will want to marry animals ? Their cars ?

Oh and if you were tired of two family incomes in MA being high and making real estate go through the roof this will make things even worse. Forget about the power couples now you’ve got the power threesome and foursomes. Or they can have two people work still and one to Stay home and take care of the snowflakes.

People say oh this is their life choice. But in reality they will in many ways have a much easier life than the average family. Not sure what their kids will end up being like in the long run.

I agree. Where do they draw the line/slippery slope. Do women really want this or is it just a convenient arrangement for men? This reminds me a little of the communes and "free love" back in the '60s. Those didn't work--too chaotic and confusing, I think. Some people were lazy, others took up the slack and resented it. It's human nature. That's why we humans need some rules. Rules like marrying ONE person at a time. Or being in a close sexual family type relationship with ONE person, not a group. What a mess.

It terrifies me that people don't apparently understand the concept of consent, or mutually consenting adults. I guess I shouldn't be surprised that consent is a foreign concept to some, but it still terrifies me.

This is mostly what I've seen as well. Women are usually the driver.

It’s also funny to me that these polyamorous incomes families are all over black lives matter and all about raising up black people. Maybe they should head to mattapan or Roxbury to look for their next spouse. Take in a single black mother with 3 kids to your 6 figure household. Problem solved you’ve definitely done your part. You did more than just hang a sign or take a knee.

That is not OK with me, and shouldn't be for any normal civilized society. And yes I understand there's millions of kids raised by single mothers. That's tragic as well, and we should imo be trying much harder not to reward that.

I get what you are sayin, but i'd have to see evidence that there is legit harm being done to the child as a direct result of the family dynamic to fully stand in the way of what consulting adults want to do with each other.

There been plenty of cases of traditional marriage causing harm to a child (or one of the partners as well) by way of physical, emotional and sexual abuse. A child shouldn't be witnessing or be aware of a parents sexual activities at all... period. A child shouldn't be subject to rape from any parent or sibling. That goes for straight, gay, or 4 partners at once. A child show grow up in a loving and nurturing household. Abuse is abuse, and there are already laws on the books against much of what is probably running through the heads of many.

It's also possible that a child isn't even in the picture in many of these relationships. In that case, I echo what I say in that if everyone is consenting, then they can do whatever the hell the want. Have at it.

What you and others are failing to understand it that nobody ever mentioned taking any consent away. Nobody was prevented from doing their own thing prior to this, assuming they weren't married anyway. The effect of this measure, is the city of Somerville PROMOTING these freaky "family" arrangements. It's apparent you could care less for any kids that might suffer from their parents' derangements, but the government is there (or should be) to protect vulnerable kids from irresponsible adults such as yourself. Something tells me you would favor eliminating consent age as well (how old fashioned and right wing!).
