I guess it depends who you know. I can remember thinking people who worked from home were lucky. I didn't think it was that unusual to come across people who worked from home two or 3 times a week or even completely pre covid. The hybrid thing was happening since the 2000s.

There are a lot of people for sure, in some fields. But as for the poster who claims to not know "anybody" going into work 5 days a week (outside those three industries), that's kind of hard to fathom. But I guess some really don't get out all that much.

Or they only know people who work at offices who can work from home. If they were in their 20s or even 30s I could see this being true. Not everyone has a diverse group of friends.

You also live in a bubble.

I believe that poster is older, but regardless it's exactly what I meant by living in a bubble.

I'm older than some, I guess. No need to make disparaging comments, I'm just sharing my experience that hybrid ways of working existed long before the COVID-19 pandemic across many industries and at some of the region's largest employers like Fidelity Investments, State Street Bank & Trust, Raytheon, Takeda Pharmaceutical and Harvard University.

I know, I get it. This forum seems to be filled with people who frown upon working from home, refuse to believe that there are people who can and do work from home and have been for decades. I worked for a company in the 2000's that allowed people to WFH a few days a week.

Are you concerned that your 3.5 year paid vacation will end soon?

I did the WFH thing pre covid maybe 1 day every 2 weeks or so. I knew of folks who did the same maybe 2-3 days a week. Depending highly on what role they were and industry. A lot were in sales or customer account managers from what I saw. Wasn't widespread, but it was there.

Of my peer group, it's a mix of full remote, hybrid and in office 5 days. Can't really say which is most prevalent but it's across multiple industries and pretty diverse.

One of my peers is an Architectural partner in TX at a pretty big firm, and we give him crap because their work culture is so toxic. They went fully RTO as soon as they could back in 2021 and do not support any WFH activities. Then he wonders why they can't retain top talent even with their generous compensation package and bonus structure. From what he tells me, the top guys there are older and pretty old-school and resistant to "the new trends", and he gets stuck trying to keep folks from leaving because of it.
