I lasted for well over a couple years ty. I honestly met many nice people, so I know not everyone is that way, but the overall culture I experienced quite cold and unwelcoming, and also quite bland and insular compared to what I'm used to. Additionally, many of the people I met from Minneapolis did indeed seem stuck up, and like the people on this forum, would frequently cite "Best" lists to support their insulated view of their state. Many of them considered Minneapolis to be literally the best city in the country, and like the people on this forum, laughed at places like Cleveland as depressed dumps, which is completely stereotypical, and far from the truth.

Northfield is a small town consisting almost entirely of two private colleges devoted to educating the snobbish children of snobs. One of which pretends to be a microcosm of Lake Woebegon but the other doesn't have any pretense of being down to earth. I am not sure how that experience is relevant to Minneapolis. It would be like going to Oberlin and then concluding that Cleveland was filled with snobs.

It's something that I've heard echoed from others outside of Northfield. Many people who have moved to the cities, and some who were born there, feel the way I do.

This has got to be the most bizarre thread I've ever read. Someone who lived in a small Minnesota town for two years has taken it upon himself to become a martyr and internet evangelist to spread the alleged "truth" about Minnesota and Twin Cities residents being snobby, comes in here spreading sh**, gets attacked back, and then uses these responses and a bunch of random internet websites to substantiate his claim that everyone here is snobby.

Why do you even care? YOu don't even live here. You really that mad, bro?

Maybe it was the most beautiful girl in all of Northfield. He let her get away, and then was exiled to Cleveland, doomed to forever spend his days lurking on City-Data.

215 posts on the "I Hate Minneapolis" page don't lie. Minnesota is a cold, unwelcoming place that is too full of itself, believes that it's perfect, and has a bland, White, suburban culture. I care only because you guys annoy me with your stuck up attitude. I guess I could just join the rest of country though and not care about you guys at all, and leave you guys to happily delude yourselves with self-importance.

I actually personally know people from Minneapolis, who moved to Cleveland, and came to the same realizations. They said that after coming to Cleveland they realized that Minnesota is a "suburban city" and "overwhelmingly white". It's great for people who like that kind of thing, but certainly not perfect for everyone.

Of course I've been to Minneapolis, I lived less than an hour away from there for several years. This was just an example of real people I know who said that same thing, to refute the idea that I get all these notions from reading them on the internet.
