Another strong year for music! Way to go '74!
The ex-Beatles had a great year, with three number 1's. Although Ringo had better hits than "you're 16", it was a fun hit. But McCartney and Lennon both had memorable hits.
My favorite hits of the year include:
Time in a Bottle
The joker
Love's Theme
Hooked on a Feeling ( a completely guilty pleasure, as I still remember how cool the oga-chacka Oga-Chaka sounded to my 7th grade ears)
TSOP
Loca-motion. Big at the skating rink!
Band on the Run (Jet and Junior's Farm also helped Mccartney have a great year for great guitar riff-driven songs, just don't spend much time on the lyrics!)
Sundown
Rock the Boat-- is this bubblegum soul? Whatever it is, I like it!
Rock your Baby-- probably my favorite number 1 of the year! I love the guitar riff and texture of the tune, not to mention incredible singing!
Feel like making love
Whatever Gets You Through the Night-- this song grabs you from the start and never lets go--a souvenir of Lennon's year-long lost weekend party time!
Then Came You-awesome tune that I never get tired of!
I can help - doesn't sound like 1974, but a gem of a tune
Cats in the cradle
What a tune!

Bonus: worst songs:
Havin' My Baby--pure dreck
Billy don't be a Hero is pretty weak, but nothing compares to Havin' My Baby Imo
