I don't work in NY
I live far enough away, 40 miles where the craziness doesn't affect me but close enough to get in when I want to do something there...I'm talking Manhattan, when I go visit my son that does take longer as he's in Brooklyn.
I much prefer being closer to NYC than say Philly
Agreed. We time our trips to the city where we don't hit traffic. We can make it there in about 1 hr.

I would rather be closer to Philly, really just because that area is my favorite part of NJ.
Born and raised in Staten Island, and having family in Brooklyn and Queens, I have known NYC my whole life and for that reason have never been able to appreciate it.

It's a lot easier to get into Philly as well. A friend and I went into Philly for the evening a couple weeks ago on a Friday night. Traffic moved, got off the highway, went around a block a few times and found a spot. Strolled around. Lots of people but not outrageous. Went into some shops, out to dinner, had a couple drinks. Went home. No tunnels, trains that are never on time, mad rushes down escalators into trains that may or may not stop at your stop.
NYC is an interesting place, and I have family that lives in Queens. But I really have no desire to go there. It's just such a hassle getting in and out. Mass transit sucks, traffic sucks, the city is too crowded. I find it miserable. I like a night out in the city, just not NYC.
Nex we've been down this road before..from where Tahiti & I live the dam train takes toooooooooooooo long...it's like being on the Hooterville Trolley
Use the faster boonton line......lol saves you 40 mins....only runs on weekdays... Alittle research and you can find out when the express train runs on the weekend....
Obviously the worst part about NYC (Manhattan) is that it's an island. Which means everybody going in and out has to be funneled to a few bridges and tunnels. That's what makes it such a nightmare. But honestly, I feel blessed to be able to live so close to all NYC has to offer. If you ever think otherwise, go out West or the central part of the county where the cities are all hundreds of miles apart. Nothing comes close to what NYC has to offer.

it's cheaper and faster to drive nexus, and until that fact changes, sorry.

This is an interesting post, and I agree half way with it. I've lived in both proximity to NYC and Philly. Here's my take: the SUBURBS in South Jersey, in proximity to Philly to me are far more desirable, for the most part, to live in, than those close to NYC. That said, I'd rather be closer to NYC than Philly as I prefer visiting the former to the latter. So I am split right down the middle.
