i looked on craigslist just to look and theres like almost NO garden complex apts with washer/dryer and parking in the northern nj burbs and the ones i saw cost like $1700, is there someth im missing?

That's about the going rate for newer Northern NJ apartments in the average 'burb. Garden apartments tend to be significantly older and will not likely have a washer/dryer in the unit. Most garden complexes do have parking lots for residents, but you will likely have to pay an additional fee.
sh1t is grossly overpriced for what you're gettin back, and salaries are only slightly higher than other regions

Easy for a house or a one bed condo? Where are you? I have a small 4 br cape which was inexpensve for where I am and I WISH I could have been below 2K a month...even at an interest rate that was great at that time.
