Just jumping back on for an update. I was in person today and got to see a video of my coworker's apartment. Decent size IMO -2 bedrooms. The Kitchen was tiny, however. It was the odd shaped tiny kitchen they display on their website. I also noticed that 1 bedroom (maybe both) didn't have a closet. I might have missed it and didn't want to ask him to show me video again. The bathroom was nice. The apartment reminded me of East River/ Hillman apartments. I could definitely see the difference between this lottery apartment and the market rent one my friends have. That said, a 2 bedroom in Stuytown for a reasonable amount (I didn't ask about the rent) is something I wouldn't turn down. So happy for my coworker and hope we get an offer soon.

Co-worker also confirmed that they were not initially able to see the apartment because it was under construction and not because of Covid like I thought. GL everyone!

Thanks for the info!

I'm assuming that your coworker's apartment is a true two-bedroom and not a one-bedroom that has been "flexed" into a faux two-bedroom. Did you see French doors? That's a clue the apartment is a flex.

In a true two-bedroom, the closet for the small bedroom is located right there in the hallway. The main bedroom will have two closets, or else one closet in the bedroom and another closet in the hallway.

The nice thing about this arrangement is that it gives you a "wall of closets" between your apartment and your neighbor's in the bedroom area. It's good for sound separation.

It looks like a proper 2bedroom not flex. I do remember seeing a wall of closets which was nice.

Great! Good to know. When you said you didn’t see closets in the bedrooms, I started to get nervous!

Good luck, and I hope you get called soon.

The livingroom was also very spacious IMO. In the flex apartments I noticed that the livingroom space is much smaller.

Anyone have any idea how long it might take to reach a log in the 18,000s? My friend got a log number that high. Wondering if anyone from the last lottery had a similar number and is now in.

Shady, you can't compare this lottery to the previous ST lotteries because no one wanted those expensive apartments (one-bedrooms were $2,900), and almost everyone in the higher bracket turned them down.

That's why ST constantly had to refresh the list.

Personally, if it is true that there are 2,000 vacant units dedicated to the 2021 lottery, I would estimate that anyone 5,000 and under has a shot, depending on what size apartment they want.

(We don't know the breakdown of one-bedrooms, two-bedrooms, and three-bedrooms either, but three-bedrooms are rarer.)

But look, I would love to be proved wrong because my daughter is in the 19,000s!

"flex" units are not allowed in the affordable housing program. If you are called for a 2 bedroom, it will be the real 2 bedroom layout.
