I'm a transplant too but unless you come from a city that's being gentrified the way NYC is (I'm from DC) you wouldn't understand. Plus Harlem will have social issues for years to come because there are housing projects everywhere in Harlem and don't forget The Bronx is right next door.
you wont be able to go to 138th Street for Mexican food anymore
So sad
Oso on Amsterdam and 140th St is excellent. It's on my top 10 in nyc for overall value, food, casual ambiance.
The corn appetizer and churro dessert is the nuts.
Neil Patrick Harris and his husband/family join a not small number of gays who have moved into that area of Central Harlem (they are on Fifth near 126th) and that is something else ticking some old school locals off.
So the old locals are homophobic too. Not surprising.
This is beginning to sound a bit like SHAMELESS.

Many African-Americans are quite socially conservative (even if they vote Democratic), i.e., anti-abortion, anti-gay marriage, etc.
I'm not surprised that some people in Harlem may not be so keen on gay people moving in.

Best series on TV. And the only one to really deal with gentrification honestly, perhaps with the exception of HIGH MAINTENANCE: they just re-ran the episode dealing with the second class citizenship of the affordable apartment lottery winners. "You people aren't allowed in the sauna" "You people aren't allowed on the roof." LMAO
