I think it's a bit early to make that judgment call. It's possible that it's overreach, but it's sort of difficult to tell when there's still quite a bit that's unknown at the moment. I'm sure there will be more than just a bit of economic modeling on whether it was overreach, or, uh, underreach and to what extent.

To the moderators. Everything in the city has something to do with the virus so does that mean everything will be funneled to this thread for the time being ? I just wanted to start a thread about what people are doing at home, what TV shows etc. Would that type of thread be removed and placed here ?

You won't graduate summa *** laude with that kind of thinking, but Coney Island U does have some nice stuffed animals for hitting the same target twice.

Default No to shelter in place

This shelter in place stuff is bs. NY City Hall is mulling for one to be potentially announced within the next 48 hours.

Where does this stop? It also sets a precedent for future actions like this as more likely for other perceived insults to the commonweal.

Our political leaders have some of the worst judgement. So why would anyone trust them on this?

I'm not gonna take the fascism bait so easily.

The city that never sleeps could shut down like San Francisco so no bacon egg n cheese or Brooklyn

NYC Mayor Bill DeBlasio says New Yorkers “should be prepared right now for the possibility of a shelter in place order.”

The decision has not been made yet, but he says it’s a possibility within the next 48 hours.

No, it will be on a case by case basis. If there is a specific topic separate from the corona aspect, I’ll leave it. See the St. Patrick’s Day parties thread for an example. If corona is the main topic, it will be merged.

FYI (for all), this issue was discussed in the moderator section and some mods are not allowing it at all in local forums, taking the view that ALL corona discussion belongs in the current events section. We’re being told to manage as we see fit and I believe this is the best way for us.

Meh, little difference for San Francisco--it's a pretty sleepy little town anyhow.
