go ahead, start a death pool

I also take the under, IMO total 12-month US dead due to COVID-19 is going to come in at around 8,000

That doesn't sound too bad. It's still ongoing, but Italy's cited as an example of a country that really bungled their early response to it, but cracked down hard on it later, and are at 2,503 deaths so far out of a population of 60 million or so. They had their first documented case on January 31st and started locking down Lombardy on February 21st and then the rest of the nation on March 9th when it started being clear their healthcare system was being overwhelmed.

I read somewhere it's supposed to get better as it gets warmer--didn't find the original source where I read it, but here's a paper on coronavirus survival times on surfaces in general.

Default If the city issues a shelter in place order, will you comply?

NYC Mayor Bill DeBlasio says New Yorkers “should be prepared right now for the possibility of a shelter in place order.”

The decision has not been made yet, but he says it’s a possibility within the next 48 hours.

I heard today the shelter in place order will come on Thursday as soon as all of our online classrooms are set up and the tech hardware is distributed to students.
Also heard late this afternoon that NYC confirmed cases are approaching 1,000 when they were only about 650 this morning. Things are evolving rapidly now.
