NYC is bad enough where you cannot carry a gun (still most places even after recent SCOTUS) to defend yourself or a knife. No defensive weapons of any sort may be carried on the subway. And now these woke identity Marxists are trying to make your own body parts illegal too.

You are expected to sit there and take your beating, if you happen to die then "them's the breaks".

The criminals can attack with impunity with little to no prosecution, whereas the law abiding citizens are required to be victims and any action whatsoever will be prosecuted to the maximum extent of the law and they will even make up new laws to multiply the punishment. This is the definition of ANARCHO-TYRANNY

People are getting sick of it though, and they won't wait 30 years for a Guilianni to come around again this time. Regular people are going to start losing their minds and it's going to get worse than the 70's/80's until people are completely sick of it and have the common sense to stop going along with this oppressed victim liberation theology and vote these ideologues out of office.

Not optimistic any time soon

well a civilized society has laws that will have repercussions for killing someone when all they were in for was an ass whooping.

so weapons and acts have different grades and in the eyes of the law have to match

A civilized society enforces said laws - we are not currently in a civilized society.

When the police are prevented from doing their job, when prosecutors refuse to do their job, you get Kyle Rittenhouse and Daniel Penny. It's not any sort of mystery and is 100% predictable - something always fills the vacuum when authority abdicates responsibility.

We were never in a civilized society. There was an illusion for a while, but whales always walked, but now the little guy gets to walk a bit too.

In a way, depends how you look at it, its a more free society. And maybe, the feeble men of today will learn to defend their own land and home as we navigate through these difficult times.

Hope you are a minority in this way of interpreting the law. In complex deadly confrontations like this a lot are involved: fear, bravery, justice, sacrifice, fighting for the right etc. Words in the law are limited and impossible to accurately cover complex scenarios like this to properly guide people how to react and act in such a stressful course. We citizens should view such situations based on common sense and good moral principles, not to take the law word for word to punish our brave citizens who risk their lives to fight for public safety. Too many tragedies occur in NYC because of cold senseless arguments like yours deterring proactive self defensive actions.

The death is a result a mutual struggle for control during a long subduing course.
Nobody in their right mind would give up the control voluntarily until they feel safe for themselves. Neely died of his own deadly acts as a result of the life threatening situations he created for people around him. Very well deserved!

I think the problem is we don't see what he did prior to the incident, but we DO see the video of him being put out. The defense has a hell of a case on their hands to prove reasonable doubt.
