  3. Government corruption. I think WNY/NYS are trying to battle Chicago for the most morally and politically corrupt.
  4. Sunny 300 days a year. Nope NY doesn't have that.

  7. Taxes 1/3 of NY. lower property, income and sales, gas taxes are also less meaning much lower gas prices.
You can keep posting the same stuff about Upstate/WNY nobody buys it that's why there's about 5 new posts a year from people who are thinking about moving to upstate and where I live now gets about 5 a day.
Westerner's might be called "laid back" but I call it, generally, indifferent or "if you need something, it's your problem. I'm gonna ride off on my horse and you do the same."

Moderator cut: post you were quoting/replying to has been deleted

I lived in NC for many years before returning to NY. I also still post in the NC forum. Though I did not like living there anymore and chose to leave, I still respect others' decision to live or relocate there and occasionally post on the NC forum offering advice and information on places I am familiar with down there when questioned are asked by newcomers or prospective transplants. Yeah, I sometimes offer my unfavorable view of some of the aspects of life there too, but that is not ALL I write about in the NC forum. If I had absolutely nothing nice to say about the area, I wouldn't post there. I don't think that makes me special; as there are also several posters here in the NY forum who chose to leave because they did not want to live here anymore; yet still come on here to offer helpful advice (not, "don't move there it sucks") to those who have questions about NY.

If upstate NY is such a livable mecca, why aren't people breaking down the doors to get in?
Maybe because people think the grass is greener somewhere else or people have a lack of knowledge in terms of TOTAL cost of living. Much of it is based upon perception and weather is a possible factor. Keep in mind that FL has been losing people lately. So, I would be careful.

As for CO, I've also have heard that it is getting expensive as well and cost of living in that state in any area worth a darn is still higher than most of Upstate NY in a general sense. BTW-There are more than 5 people on here looking to move to Upstate NY.

Also, Denver as a metro has very limited competiton for people as it is pretty isolated in a big region. So, it makes sense for that area to grow based on geography. It's no coincidence that many federal agencies are in the area for that reason.

Population growth/loss in Upstate NY can vary. So, even that depends on the county, town or city. This has been posted many times, btw.

Moved to NJ three years ago and in April I will be moving back. Do I miss NY, yes because I spend 90% of the time here.

Also, tired of paying double fare. $136/month to NJ transit and then a MetroCard.

So NY, here I come!

I truly wasn't trying to break down any door when I moved to orange county ny. My wife thought it would be cool to have 2 acres of grass instead of a few strands of weeds that sprout up on the sidewalks of brooklyn. If I had to do it again I would have never moved upstate. Instead I would have either moved as far west as I could or south if possible.

Not to nitpick (which of course means that's exactly what I'm doing lol) but Orange County is NOT upstate ny. If people in your area commute to NYC for work, you are not in upstate, ny

Than what would you consider it? The hudson valley is A-B-O-V-E NYC is it not? If I leave any of the 5 boroughs to north, that for me is upstate.

That doesn't make it upstate, still downstate; but whatever. It's not worth arguing about, at least not in this thread.
