I do support polygamy. If you could read what I wrote I specifically said - between consenting HUMAN adults.

I'm starting to think that Magritte and CHS might be married. It seems that most topics on this board stay civil, even when there's disagreement, but thrown one or both of them into a debate and it turns to crap almost instantly. Seriously, do you 2 live for stirring up arguments?

I chose this link because it's easy to understand...

The Pilgrims: Voyage to Freedom Part 1: The Need for Freedom

The pilgrims left England 'cause they wanted to practice their religion (which was different from the religion of England) without persecution. (religion was part of the government of England...hmm...theocracy??).

Stirring up arguments?

Ah, that's right I forgot. If you don't agree, keep your mouth shut. Hey Phillies, why didn't you do that on the now locked "Gay Day" thread?

This is civil debate dear.

I'm thinking the same thing. We're debating civilly and they come on and turn everything upside down. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but a moderator is sure to close this thread down soon because of it.

Quite simply, no.

While I strongly oppose gay marriage along with you and the rest of my loyal, God-fearing, church-going, apple-pie-loving NEPA brethren, this argument is just wrong. Society *could* deem polygamy or bestiality legal, but there is absolutely no popular support for it. How can gay marriage open the door to those things if no one wants it? We are a democracy, after all.

I could be wrong, but I *think* you're assuming that Courts would assume their role as protectors of constitutional rights against the tyranny of the majority in a constitutional democracy, step in, and hold that Equal Protection demands that marriage rights for gays requires marriage rights for anyone/thing. This argument needs to be made though, and so far no one has convincingly made it.

Because that's the logical next step, right?

Or poke holes in your "reasoning", however you want to look at it.

Why is it turned upside down? Because I am disagreeing with you? Because I am saying you are wrong?
