Last check 92% of the Portsmouth City Schools receives some form of free and or reduced lunch aid. Chances are that number could be closer to 100% as typically in every community there are those who even if they qualify for the aid refuse to accept it.
That one trick [Wheeling then Detroit Empire Steel] pony made those 500 lbs bombs that fell on those nasty Nazi's and baby killing Japanese
and it was those Democrat supporting Unionized workers that killed that pony...I paid for my lunch as did my friends and the school was so close to the shoe company [Williams] and the shoe string [Mitchelle Lace] factories you could hear the looms running.
Those evil corporate heads would have their salesmen size up the poorer kids feet to give them free shoes...a very good example of Corporate Welfare back in the day.
The Downtown was booming and Christmas was just like in the Christmas Story at the department stores up Chillicothe street damn good days till Johnson War on poverty then Vietnam for real...
Thanks liberals for turning the pride of Appalachia into the mess it is today...

The biggest problem facing Portsmouth and the surrounding areas are that people have lost hope. They've lost hope in our city leaders, in themselves, and the possibility of significant change. Its no secret that there is a lot of corruption at every level of local government in Portsmouth. I hate to sound like an a**, but we are to blame for this. We keep voting in the same corrupt politicians, representatives, Sheriffs, etc. Then we sit around and wonder why this place is falling apart. Investments in the superficial aspects of this city, like slapping a fresh coat of paint on a building, or building more "housing' around the campus is all good and fine, but it will not solve the deep rooted issues of this city. We need real jobs, a competent workforce to staff these jobs, and officials willing to promote our city to attract companies to want to do business here. Instead what we have is a group of city officials only looking out for themselves and their cohorts. I am a business owner here as well as Columbus and Cincinnati. The hoops and red tape to start a business in this city is outright ridiculous, all of these obstructions to business growth can be directly traced back to the people we've elected. Do not give up on our city, no matter how bad it is, or how hopeless it may seem. We the people of this city deserve better, but it must start with us! This city can be revived, it can be repaired, it is not too late!
