That's funny! I think bar backing is a good college job but not at a strip club!

I'd never heard of a barback until now. I researched it and it does sound like a great college job. (Of course, not at a strip club! LOL) Unfortunately, the only barback positions in our region are at casinos and nightclubs. (It appears that normal bars and restaurants make bartenders do both jobs.) Only the casinos are hiring barbacks but have an age requirement of 21. State law is 18. He'll have to find another great college job unless he can find a contact to get a nightclub gig.

What's w/ a thread getting locked because one poster gets offended about what's a normal part of life w/ women/teens? I wish more husbands/dads were as understanding as the OP was.

It probably got closed because it wasn't about parenting. And that poster was me. Hello there! We'll just have to agree to disagree because I didn't see it that way at all, but I don't really want to argue about it anymore.

My husband and I have spent the better part of 25 years in academia, so I guess we're just out of touch with the humor of the world outside our bubble. We academic folks really do sort of have our own culture. Threads like that one remind me of just how disconnected we can be. *shrug*

The personal attacks were flying too thickly in there, and yes, it was not a parenting topic. PMS belongs in Health and Wellness. If it were a civil discussion I would have moved it. Sorry kids!

Just wondering why it wasn't moved over to Health and Wellness like other threads are moved?

I've reopened it, with a note at the end.

Starting to lose track of the number of snow days this year.
It's really wonderful that reverse 411 systems are available, but it's the 5am call time that is knockin me out

Hopes- There has to be a Janis Joplin song that meets your criteria

My DH actually came up with Janis' Piece of my Heart when he was listing songs but I wasn't sure it fit "grief". Loved Janis. Miss Janis.

And FWIW Lucygirl, I totally see your point. I thought it was my age and my West Coast Amish upbringing, but some of the things people post about floor me. Sex lives, daughter's periods, kids' sex lives. No way I'm going to do that so I normally just read what other people have to say and don't comment myself. I'm sure not giving explicit examples with anyone in my own family. And I don't think my dad ever knew when I was or wasn't. (In a lot of things lol.) There were some things just done quietly and with no discussion. But, the times they are a changin'. Probably more than ol' Bob ever predicted.

(Many years ago there was an All in the Family episode where Gloria asked Meathead to buy her some "products". I don't think the word was ever mentioned. Can't remember. Anyway, the entire nation was shocked that the subject was even on TV.)

Love Janis Joplin! Thanks for thinking of her!

I just read the lyrics of Piece of My Heart. I agree that it's not about grieving death, but I do think it's about grieving the loss of a relationship.

Those two types of grieving are closely related---the loss of a loved one. Except losing someone in a breakup brings different emotions, like thinking it was your fault, etc.

I'm going to read more lyrics of her songs. I agree that there has to be one out there by her about grieving death.
