So today on the beach we had to get out of the water for about 20 minutes while a little 5 foot shark came for a visit. We have been watching Shark Week non-stop, I thought the kids may be a bit skittish about swimming in the ocean, but it doesn't seem to phase them in the least. I'm really glad as DH and I are pretty low-key, it wouldn't really work well to have a highly-strung child. Also lots and lots of rays in the water today. Back to reality soon .
Are you visiting the East or West coast, Zim? I'm assuming you're in Florida for the moment? Lots of stingrays and manatees on the west coast, and sharks too, though they're really everywhere, and I think New Smyrna Beach (a bit south of Daytona) is the shark bite capital.

East coast, just north of West Palm Beach. I'm actually not really bothered by sharks. My parents lived in South Africa for many years, and from their house you could see Seal Island and Shark Alley (Shark Week viewers will know what I'm talking about), and you could actually see Great White sharks swimming at the swim beaches.
I have to admit to never having been to one of the casinos here. Not a gambler....makes me nervous which apparently isn't much fun when going to casinos. Go figure...
Well, when I went, all I did were the penny slots - what does that tell ya?

It is. They hit out of the blue - I get the warning with the halos in my vision. I was perfectly fine one minute, not the next. Usually if I take something right away, I avoid the worst of it. But not so much today.
Hope everyone enjoyed their dinners! We did while watching Battle Los Angeles. Could we picked a more predictable movie?
psr - that sounds good. I have a bag of potatoes from the farm my son works at that I need to use. They aren't big enough to do baked potatoes though. Not sure what the variety is, but they are dark purple - almost black.

Eek! Not someplace I'd take my babies to play in the water, then. But probably fun to watch, sometimes, unless it's the middle of the dinner hour.
My basil plants have grown to huge bushes. I need some fantastic basil recipes. Anyone have some favorites to share?
Hopes - I went through this last week when we got a ton from the farm. I made basil butter and froze a bunch. A basil/citrus vinaigrette, basil chicken pizza.
And I can't do casinos, though I'd happily go to Vegas and watch Elvis impersonators. Well, as long as they weren't making happy noises.
Funny you should bring that up. Today is Elvis Day at the Musical Instrument Museum. Elvis exhibit, Elvis impersonator, special Elvis food in the cafe, Elvis trivia contest. We'll be leaving in a little bit. I'm hoping DH's knees hold out because I plan on having a hunka-hunaka burning good time.
