I remember the P&D name and I remember it was on Van Buren. Wouldn't it be nice to walk into a place like that and be able to buy some of those famous old British bikes, brand new, at those prices. Could the Doodlebug be licensed? They were so tiny with a Briggs & Stratton engine.

I think Royal Auto Parts was just down the street. I always got a nice discount there because I was in auto shop at Phoenix Union. The school bought all of our parts there for autos we were working on in shop.

Thanks azdr0710 for the eye-witness report! (thx to roosevelt and AZtrails for their info as well)
Looking at old aerial & recent satellite photos, my memory is too weak to figure out exactly which buildings were/are part of the old resort, but that was definitely the area.

Re: Buckhorn Baths--With its big sign, that place was always a landmark for me as a kid when we would drive out of town to the east.

Then when I was going to ASU, I remember collecting water samples from their baths for a professor who was measuring radioactivity in water from hot springs around Arizona.

Here you go, good times. I used to go to Eastside Auto Parts on Washington.

Anyone know what this is? Maybe a trolley token for 5 cents. Can't imagine a bus would be that cheap unless for students only.

My cousin was a bag boy (his first job) at the Madison Pay'n Takit at 16th and Missouri in the late 1970s. If I'm remembering correctly, owner Stan Felix was a P-51 pilot in World War II. I've got a slew of 35mm slides of the store, but I'll need to convert them to digital before I can post them.

I got a Honda XL100 from them, back in 1976.

There is a similar token on sale at ebid. The only description provided was "Phoenix Union High School, Phoenix Arizona, 5 cent token...". No indication given to what the token was to be used for (trolley or bus fare, snack bar...?).

P.U.H.S. Phoenix, Arizona 5 cent token on eBid United States

Roosevelt,
Wow! Thanks for the Royal Auto Parts Pic! Amazing! That brings back some really neat memories. I haven't been on Van Buren in many years. I wonder what is there now? I gotta go and look at that Pic some more.

When I was a freshman in HS some seniors would try to sell us elevator passes to the pool on top of the cafeteria... doubt that's what the token was for.

Maybe a school breakfast program?
