Still do

The train takes a short loop outside kiddieland.

LOL.. I don't know about the Metro Center beltway, but there were a lot of them in the mall.

Of course back then the mall closed around 7 PM, I remember the entrance by the food court remained open because of the movie theaters, which were inside the mall back then, but you couldn't go past the food court because of a roll gate, or whatever they're called, was used to close the mall past the food courts and the movie theaters.

Future of Encanto Park Kiddie Land in Doubt (http://www.myfoxphoenix.com/dpp/news/local/phoenix/enchanted-island-amusement-park-4-12-2011 - broken link)

Encanto Park's Enchanted Island kiddie park was a special treat while I was growing up. They had a huge beautiful Merry-Go-Round/Carousel and a Roller Coaster that we kids loved. Attending birthday parties there was great fun also. I hope they don't close it down.

My sister bought a brand new 1971 Pinto from Clayton's predecessor, Reed Mullen Ford. I think Mel bought out Reed Mullen in 1972, the first year for the mostly glass hatchback Pinto. BTW, Canyon Ford later changed names to Pioneer Ford, after a while moved to 75th Ave & McDowell Rd, and went through a few more name changes before closing. Pioneer Ford had a second location in Goodyear, now that store is owned by the Earnhardt family and goes by the name of Rodeo Ford.

Actually, it's MULLAN, not Mullen. If there was a Larry Clayton, perhaps he's a relative of Mel's. Remember Mel Clayton Ford all too well, from a bizarre buying experience my mother had there about 40 years ago.

Sorry, my spell check doesn't do last names.
You are quite correct.

Reed Mullan Ford, I remember their commercials on the radio or TV from the early 1970s, with a song that went something like: Reed Mullan foooord, 16th Street and Camelback.

And yes, the dealership became Mel Clayton Ford sometime in the mid 1970s. The whole property was torn down in recent years, and now it's a Toyota dealership.

Wasn't Sanderson the one with that jingle in the 60s with the ending "giddy up, giddy up, giddy up, go"?
