I like Juans on 16th St and Thomas; Mi Patio; Rosita's Place on McDowell; Morenos in Mesa/Chandler; and TC Taco in Tempe.
Of course I was looking for Mexican food. Places here do have cheese dip, but it's nasty and velveeta like. YUCK. The best cheese dip I ever had was IN MEXICO!

I don't understand your comment about fajitas not being Mexican food, but the next line you recommend a Mexican place CALLED Fajitas! Hilarious!!!

Fajitas are Tex-Mex. As are all the gross iceburg lettuce/yellow cheese places.

FAJITAS
Derived from the Spanish word "faja" -- meaning "strip" (which refers to the cut of beef they used, pervert) -- fajitas are wholly a US creation (first mentioned in print in 1971) inspired and informed by the ingredients of Mexico, but not usually found in that country. The wheat tortillas served alongside the meat (and assorted vegetables) make it pretty apparent where this dish came from.

Tex Mex, Mexican, whatever. It's all the same to me. I don't get hung up on the "authenticness" thing. Life's too short to worry about the little stuff! As long as it tastes good!

I don't think you understood my post. Fajitas are Tex mex and then I offered you a good place to get them!

Do you not like helpful suggestions?

It's not at all the same and when looking for Tex-Mex at Mexican restaurants, your disappointment is sure to persist.

But Italian, Chinese, whatever. Who cares, life's too short!

Well, apparently the "Mexican food" I had IN MEXICO was not authentic, either, because by your classification it was Tex Mex. Why get hung up on silly things like that? I am sure that when someone in this country asks about Mexican food, a huge majority of the time they really mean "Tex Mex." That is what we have the most of here, and in Phoenix my experience is it is mostly crap.

This reminds me of the ridiculous argument someone tried to start with me once about Indian food, saying that it wasn't authentic because it was southern Indian style cooking and he only considered northern Indian style cooking to be "authentic." Or a person on another board who says unless a pie comes directly from Naples and only has these 3 ingredients, it isn't "real pizza."

Don't we have other things to worry about?

Well no because Tex Mex isn't a " " it's a real thing with its own history.

Fajitas are OK, but that's something you can get anywhere including chains like chili's. I definitely prefer more authenic Sonoran Style or Baja Style (pictured below from PB Shore Club in SD). IMO Phoenix, Tucson, San Diego and LA have the best Mexican food in the US. The stuff in Texas is garbage to me, New Mexico hatch chilis are good though, I'd like to try a few places in Santa Fe one day.

Correct. "" are often used for emphasis, not only as a way to say something is imaginary. For some reason there are those that think that Tex Mex isn't REAL food so maybe the quotes mean something else to them?

Again, there are bigger problems in the world

Just because you had it in Mexico doesn't mean it was Mexican cuisine. There are Chili's restaurants in Mexico, so there goes that argument. Fortunately Detroit has a large Mexican population and I grew up with real Mexican food, but you're right, most Midwesterners probably don't know the difference. People here seem to though, hence the disappointment when searching for items such as fajitas at a Mexican restaurant in AZ.

It's like going to an authentic Chinese restaurant and being disappointed that they don't have sweet and sour chicken.
