I don't give much thought to slanted opinion blogs or the political bias behind them.
I look at the facts and this vote to stop light rail is a bad move for Phoenix.

When a spokesperson for the anti-rail initiative was interviewed recently on KAET's "Horizon" program, he dodged the question of out-of-state funding. Host Ted Simons asked him repeatedly and he kept evading. Keep in mind that the Koch network is a loose amalgamation of organizations, so even if the Koch name doesn't appear on documents, there may be funds channeled through allied groups like Americans for Prosperity and the Arizona Free Enterprise Club.

Yep this is nothing new and the Building A Better Phoenix group is clearly being funded and backed by them. Another NY Times article where they are trying to influence and kill other projects across the nation

An interesting story posted today from Steven Hsieh of the Phoenix New Times adds a lot of evidence of Koch involvement in the campaign against light rail. It's indirect, of course. The Kochs fund groups like Americans for Prosperity and American Encore. They fund local groups like the Arizona Free Enterprise Club. That "club" then worked with South Phoenix community activists and business owners to transform their original concerns about the two-lane design for South Central Avenue into a much broader and more radical attack on all rail transit in Phoenix:

That guy was on Sunday Square Off also. Not a charismatic leader not sure why they picked him. Could not answer the question that if South Phoenix is opposed why not just stop that section instead of the whole thing. His responses were always anecdotes about South Phoenix business owners.

The area was never Paradise Valley but it sure as hell wasn't as bad as it's getting now and it's only been a little over a month since the damn train got extended down here.
Trains don't make people use dope....sounds like your town needs to address its drug problem.

Oh, and in addition to roads, polluted poisonous air caused by internal combustion engines brings blight...and death.

Phoenix is also one of the leading cities in asthma (especially childhood asthma). A studies in Los Angeles linked it to people (especially pregnant women) living within one mile of a freeway and within one block of any arterial road.... interesting...

Why not stop everything that transports drunks, druggies and homeless?
Get rid of busses, streetcars, cabs, and rideshares like Uber.
Demolish all streets and freeways while we're at it.
