As everyone knows, I HATE smoking, and I absolutely HATE to be around it. However, as others have mentioned, they will be going for my beer next so I do not support the smoking tax.
Canal St. in Chinatown traditionally has been full of people hawking black market cigs, so has Mott St. Same applies to 125th St. in Harlem. I'm sure if you walked around both of those neighborhoods you'd find vendors.
I did see people selling black market cigs on Fordham Rd. in the Bronx right by the Metro North station but don't know enough about the Bronx to say if this is a regular thing. I assume it is, especially given that the NYPD have far more to worry about over there than contraband cigs.

I agree. Live and let live and get the God damn government out of our lives. If people are smoking, I will just avoid being around it. No need to tax the hell out of them.
New York state legislature has just approved an additional $1.60 tax on each pack of cigarettes to make a total of $4.35 that the government is getting for each pack of cigarettes New York State residents buy. Glad I don't live in New York, the government is taxing us into the poor house and even when in the poor house, you can't even afford a cigarette anymore! This is getting ridiculous, leave us smokers ALONE!

Would all you none New Yorkers / New Jerseyites please stop blasting NYC for doing this. Leave us alone , you don't live here , us non Smokers see this as another victory.......sheesh.......Upstate NY and my state are ok for smokers......
