I went to college. Didn't do me a bit of good. I don't need my degree to do the job I'm doing.

Yes there are college grads who can't find their way out of a paper bag and genius high school drop outs running multi million dollar companies. However the trends don't move this way.

The best defense against poverty is high school graduation. College grads earn, on average, 1.5 million more over their life time than non-college grads.

Just because someone "knows a guy who..." doesn't make a trend!
You should also take what they took. Someone who went to business school and became a high level executive or someone who went to medical school and became a plastic surgeon are of course going to make far more than a handful of people who never went to college. However, you should take many of the lesser degrees into account.

With me it was the other way around all my friends went to college and i went to work. I was a gandy dancer at 18 making $6.oo an hour... fast food was paying $1.65 and Carter was Prez. When my friends came home after graduations they had little prospect of a good job so they went back to their old fast food jobs to pay off their loans and 4 years of partying.I did not waste my time or money on a education system set-up with Mao Che socialist teachers telling them what a smuck i was...lollollol...I'am in better shape financially, physically than most of them today.Your Government is to blame for all this Globalization economics that deprive you and yours a chance to a good living...the Unions that intimidate members to vote their way or else...you all best wake up...

I didn't graduate from college. Took a few night-school courses and hated it. I make a better living than many people I know, educated or otherwise.

I don't work in the fast-food industry, either. I work with great people with college degrees and I know people with degrees who wouldn't do a full day's work if you put a gun to their heads.

General statements and assumptions just don't cut it.

your passage is kind of off, because mcdonalds isnt the only job you can get without college.

here in nyc you can get a job in the mta with no college and the mta workers get paid loads of money, same as the people who work for sanitation,

and then you got people who work some security jobs and get over 20 - 30 dollars and hour.

i think its your choice on the decisions you make. whether some people want to admit it or not but their are people who don't go to college but end of successful then people who do go to college cause their build their own success.

in america half the people in college often times end up no where since a lot of these degrees dont take you to a job in the first place.

your ignoring other post that disprove your point. there are plenty jobs that don't require college degrees that pay a lot of money way over minimum wage.

Yet, I hear some American born idiots say things like "college is not for me" or "I can't afford it". Our country is full of pathetic losers.
so your a loser if you dont go to college wow what a ignorant post lol.

their are a lot of people who know that college wotn do them good cause the facts are right their.

their are tons of people with degrees who suffer now, and its not even a small amount. so to me i actually favor the person who makes more money not going to college compared to someone who wasted his time in college with all his degrees to become nothing and still living poor.

you cant compare immigrants to americans because immigrants werent born with a silver spoon in their mouth.

not to mention a lot of immigrants tend to take the college thing seriously which is great yet ignorant because they seem to always think if you go to school do what you do then you will become successful.

my parents are immigrants to and they totally ignore the fact that a huge amount of people bust their butts in college and end up even worse then before they went to college.

Both started buinsesses and were very successful. Both worked thier asses off. There are specific training "schools", like welding, are about a year long and can set up a kid for a decent income. Most of the plumbers and electricians I know did not go to college and do pretty well. We all need these skilled workers who probably do not have an advanced degree (who cares?).

1. People who are unmotivated and lazy will fail whether they go to college or not
2. People who are hard working and are willing to take some risk will probably do well whether they go to college or not
3. If you are planning on a profession- you need college
4. If you are planning on being employed (rather than self employed) you probably need to go to college to make a liveable income
5. Going to college and getting a worthless degree, like sociology, psychology, literature, dance, or art will probabaly be a huge waste of money unless you are one of they very fortunate few that are able to go on, get a PhD, and teach in these areas.

In most instances, hard work trumps education. Lazy people fail regardless of how educated they are.
best post ever.

Or maybe it's true that getting a job is more about WHO you know than about WHAT you know.
nowadays everything is about who you know so ill agree
