I don't feel we are indoctrinated to like democratic politicians. We are indoctrinated in far left ideology. They teach you all this liberal stuff without giving the other side. For example when i was taught about health care I was taught how great socialized health care was. They never taught us why people are opposed to health care. We were led to believe that it was because people are greedy and want poor black people to die. Never were we taught some people feel we cannot afford it forever. We were never even taught how much of that money came from our checks.
What "liberal stuff" is that, and do you have proof of said lesson plans?
The issue is not money, it's waste. It is unions, and it is parents who have no clue what is taught.
I paid $5000- $7500 a year to a private Montessori school up to middle school for my daughter, who is now a graduate of UC Berkeley with a degree in Physics.
We lived in a small rented apt. Drove an old Chevi, that got stuck here and there, and could not effort vacations or anything else.
At the same time the Public school was getting the same amount from the government for each student.
When my daughter went to a public school in 7th grade, she knew History, Geography, math and English in a much much higher level than her peers.
So explain to me how come $5000 -$7500 were enough for a private school to educate my daughter, while the same amount was not enough to bring her peers at a good magnet school to the same level of knowledge?
May I suggest that anybody who takes exception with my thread opening links look at this one. Just read from page 6 - 7 - 8 to learn some interesting things about the NEA during that part of time. I can't believe that people don't understand these things and won't look to find out.
It is safe to say that many children who live in poverty would benefit greatly from a longer school day/year.
I taught many students during my 37 year career who would have been better off if they had been completely removed from their homes - a longer school day/year for them would have been a second best solution for the problems that plagued them.
Ray, providing you are keeping up on it, which you probably are I have a question.
You taught for 37 years, would you say that the current education curriculum today is better in quality or worse than what previous generations were taught in government / public schools.
It seems today that the 3R's are replaced with the 3F's. Remember Conjunction Junction and Mathmatics where today it's seems to be Heather has Two Mommies and Super Teen Enviroforce.
It seems kids today cannot make change, they have no teachings in history, nor do they have any consumer mathmatics skills. We have went from Honor Roll to what is the new thing?
Today we have youth from India, China, Japan, and Germany bypassing our American youth. Though Government wants to expand hours and tenure does it want to teach or allow our teachers to teach? Our government be it Obama or our previous so called leaders touting education, the only beneficiaries seem to be the National Education Association and government beaucrats. America's children continue to lose ground and our teachers continue to work two jobs to make ends meet and hoping not to receive furlough.
I remember when as a child our local public /government schools were under the full control of the local not the federal, I am dating myself.
Since Federal just about taking full control, as with everything else progress becomes regress, success becomes failure, and beaucrats and unions win as our nation and general population loses.
You speak of poverty. In America with a free representative republic (so far anyway) when we find what we call poverty it is usually connected to a government unbilical cord unlike poverty in the third world which is due to oppressive total government. Funny, but not so on how the two are related.
I see so many folks with emotion over logic views stating idiocy like "home school them, then they can become serial killers" etc., but the truth be told, in todays NEA controlled environment home school and private school children are far outscoring public/government school children.
The sad part is, when you have folks who look to government for control and guidance only find poverty as the end result.

This pretty much says it all. Very eloquently stated. Great post. Sad truths.
