Why you guys would waste your time arguing with a homophobe is way beyond me. They're not looking for a discussion, they're looking for a fight. You might as well argue with the pope over birth control. Sheesh!

Here are some facts:

1) Human homosexuality has been observed and recorded as long humans have been recording history.

2) When asked, essentially all homosexuals say they did not choose to be attracted to members of the same sex. (Similarly, essentially all heterosexuals say they did not choose to be attracted to members of the opposite sex).

3) In fruit flies, researchers have discovered that homosexuality can be turned on and off by genetic manipulation of one particular gene as well as by manipulating their glutamatergic synapses.

4) Homosexuality exists in nearly every higher animal species and is especially prevalent in birds and mammals.

5) There are concrete examples of how homosexuality directly helps the propagation of a species (most easily seen in black swans).

6) Homosexuals have slightly different brain structures than heterosexuals.

7) In identical twin studies (even of those raised apart), if 1 twin is gay, the other twin is gay 50% of the time.

8) As a women has more children, it is more likely subsequent children will be gay.

9) Subsequent children are subjected to drastically changing hormonal environments in the womb.

These, and many other facts, strongly suggest a 100% biological basis for human homosexuality. Particularly, they indicated a multigenic (multiple genes) basis dependent9strongly on environmental influences (such as in utero hormonal exposure).

I've never understood why people think homosexuals choose to be gay - as if sexual desire is some switch that you can just flip back and forth.

As a gay person I know dozens of other gays/lesbians. I've never once in my life ever met anyone gay who said they chose to be gay. I've also noticed that being gay has never made anyone's childhood and life easier than if they'd just been straight. On the other side, I've seen a lot of people who had a great deal of hardships and stress growing up and in their lives because they were gay.

I certainly never chose this, and like MANY other gays, it was an extremely upsetting time coming to terms with it as a young teenager. Most people get a network of friends to rely on, and ultimately come to the conclusion that this "is not your fault" and that IT'S OK TO BE GAY. It would be like growing up having people tell you that you should choose a different skin color, or to write with your other hand. It's just not the way you are. It's the way you were born.

All my friends grew up in perfectly normal families. Some were divorced, some were not, they had brothers, sisters, went to school. I grew up in a very loving family just like all my friends - there was no abuse or crazy events that MADE me gay.

How many straight people out there CHOSE to like the opposite sex. As if it's a thought process when you're checking out people at the beach. Does a straight guy ever start getting turned on and start staring at other guys, then have to stop and remember that he likes girls instead - because that's what he chose. Hell no. People catch your eye.....you don't think about it.
