The truth is none of this may have been politically motivated at all. We just don't know. However, what we DO know is that this was a wake-up call on several fronts.
#1) Mental health services are sorely needed as are early interventions to spot these type of people. #2) Jan Brewer (governor of AZ) has made cuts in funding in this area. #3) This guy has a substance abuse issue and more money needs to be spend on treating addiction #4) Hate speech never helps any of this. It doesn't matter which side it comes from, but the squeakiest wheel gets the grease. These days the squeaky wheels are Palin, Beck, etc.
Absolutely. I'm just trying to keep things grounded in facts.
I've read right wing folks here saying that he was definitely a socialist and killed her because he was arrested for marijuana 4 years ago.
I've read left wing folks saying he was influenced by beck, palin and others and thats why he shot them.
The point is we don't know either way yet, and the guy is a loon, we may never know for sure.
I understand that you a very passionate about your beliefs as many people are. Perhaps you can still meet Gabby in the future and maybe one day help influence others as well, but in order to do so, that means listening to ALL people and not just the ones you feel have the same core values. Although you may believe that you have been "exposed to it all", we as humans never stop learning. There are so many people that can perhaps learn from you and there are so many people that you can perhaps learn from. My best discussions about politics have always been with those who have opposing views, and some of them are my best friends.
My hope is that you come to these discussion forums not only to be heard, but to hear others.
Well, when I hear a rational person (moderate usually) I do pay attention. However, CD tends to draw from both the hard left and right. I pretty much dismiss all the "you're just a baby hater liberal" posts so that says something there.
If someone wants to be reasonable (like Keith Olbermann was in his special commentary yesterday where he issued his OWN apology for having said something that might have appeared to promote violence), then I am all for hearing that person out. However, I do NOT expect to hear any such comments from Palin, et al this week to that effect.
Sarah Palin will NOT be saying "It was regrettable I had that crosshairs map up. If I in any way contributed to this tragedy, then I apologize. Going forward I will be more circumspect." Nope, ain't gonna happen.
Only the left will buy it, not the country at large. The left will use this as they always use tragedies to further their own sick and twisted world view but no one in mainstream America is buying that nonsense anymore.
Your post is dripping with irrational bias.
There are certainly crazies on both extremes of the political spectrum. Hyperpartisan rhetoric does nothing but fan the flames. Yesterday's shooting should wake us all up to that.
Some of the members of the left surely are. But you know what? If you're going to do the exact same thing that they do in the opposite direction, then chances are that you are too. You're just as bad as them, but keep at it!... I'm sure this went right over your head anyway.
I haven't lived in Arizona in seven years. When I was there I might have regarded it as mildly conservative (especially compared with places I previously lived in: California, Mass, and NY). But not off the map right wing, for sure.
Still, as an outsider now, I'm struck by the barrage of negative publicity the state has engendered over the last several years. In all the media. More than nearly any other state.
Has the state become so contentious? Has it been the illegal issue that has brought about the change? Or is it just all overblown?

Well, I've been here seven years now. No, it is not overblown. I should add, at least when Janet was here, this state had a chance. Now with Brewer in office who lies, doesn't even have a college degree, got into office by default, this state is completely screwed.

She posted condolences on her website. Take a breath and think about what has happened to others here instead of pushing an agenda. Do you work for MSNBC?

She posted something to cover her butt and yanked down her hit list is what she did. And, no, I do not, but thank you for the compliment.

Funny, they're all forgetting about another shooting attack on congresspeople.
Five members of Congress were shot in the US House chamber when Puerto Rican nationalists shot up the House chamber on March 21, 1954.
After that, Jimmy Carter pardoned 3 of them.
