It could have been a historic teaching moment. Instead, President Obama, the most famous mixed-race person in the world, checked off only one race — black — last year on his census form. And in so doing, he missed an opportunity to articulate a more nuanced racial vision for the increasingly diverse country he heads.
The article quoted a political science professor who said that Obama identifies as black for political reasons. If he had called himself multiracial in Chicago, he never would have had a political career.
It was until recently that the term multiracial was used. Generally most of those who are of mixed race (with one of those races being black) will label themselves as such. It wasn't until 2000 that someone could check more than one race on the census form.
Pure racism is what explains the cons obsession with Obama being half white. It reminds me of that conversation in Roots II between Alex Haley and a famous American Nazi, George Lincoln Rockwell I think. In the scene Rockwell had just learned about the impressive education etc of Alex Haley, a black man. And he responds by saying that Haley must have some white blood in him and that white blood was where he got his brains

Now that sounds very much like the truth about things.
I really wonder how many people of either race voted for him because they considered him black and didn't care about any of his policy aims.
We're all children of Adam and Eve. Depending on who you believe, they were from Iraq or Eithiopia. Either way, we're all part Middle-Eastern or African. Sorry if that ruins anyone's evening

Holy crap, and some claim liberals talk about race too much.
He identifies with blacks because he looks like a black, and thats probably who he has been accepted by.
