The fastest-growing portion of our population that does this is not the working poor, it's people who earn $75,000 - $100,000/yr.

Those people pay state taxes, sales taxes, property taxes, sin taxes, local taxes.

Surprise! Who's not paying federal income tax?

Switch jobs? Maybe you're unaware of the millions of people without jobs. If the pay scale in the area is low, you're not telling someone to switch jobs, you're telling someone with virtually no disposable income to come to your city, use up your city's resources for the homeless and indigent, while they apply for YOUR job.

People with your attitude criminalize the poor. How dare they be poor! But at the same time, they ain't gonna get anything that's due you, are they? By God, no they ain't! Let 'em starve! That'll teach 'em!

You had better be careful; you are going to throw your shoulder out of joint patting yourself on the back.

I am one of those 53% also; in fact, there have been years when I have been in that small minority who have had to write six figure checks to the IRS.

That does not mean I feel in any way superior to the people who have fallen on hard times due to the economic devastation caused by Wall St criminals.

I realize that all the sweat and hard work in the world mean nothing without the right opportunities.

Your statement that 90% of people have jobs is ignorant. The employment participation rate is 69.3% Labor Force Participation Hits New Low - Real Time Economics - WSJ

If you are going to rationalize, why not say the employment rate is 100%?

After all, according to you, anyone who does not have a job is a worthless person, who only wants to collect welfare, and should not be counted anyway.

Enough that when a war-monger President starts YET ANOTHER foreign war, he'll say: "Wait a minute! That has nothing to do with me or with America! And all the war money has to be BORROWED, and I certainly can't afford to pay even more taxes on INTEREST because government spends 40% more than it collects EVERY SINGLE YEAR! And my kids certainly don't need to be saddled with the insane debt government has racked up..." etc., etc.

Um... last time I checked unemployment was 9.1%... that means that 90.9% of the population has jobs in this country.

Here's a multiple choice question for you... how did 90.9% of the people get jobs in this country:

A. They complained about the lack of jobs and refused to even look
B. They actually went out and pounded the pavement to find jobs
C. They assumed that because unemployment is high there are absolutely zero jobs to be had in this country
D. They went to an OWS protest and screamed and cried

His situation is simple-- if he doesn't have any upward mobility in his company, and they aren't paying him enough he has 2 options... complain about it, or do something about it (look for another job or start his own business). This is why we live in a free country.

I know. The US Constitution.

whoda thunk?
But then we'd have to trade modern war-mongering socialist welfare America with an elite and privileged political upper class, for old-style free citizens, self-determination, and a healthy economy free from the suffocating drain of bloated and corrupt Big Government! What would we do with all the money suddenly actually circulating in the economy, if we don't send half of it to be wasted by Washington politicians on pork and corruption?

Someday there will be enough Libertarians to actually START America again. I just hope 99% of the population doesn't have to starve before we realize Big Government has DESTROYED the American dream, and replaced it with hopeless stagnation.

Now you have lost me... what are you talking about? "My attitude"

You mean the attitude that people who want something actually have to go get it? Please explain to me how else someone gets something if they don't have to put in effort as I'm sure we are all interested to know...

Is there a way to get something by doing nothing at all and just complaining?
