Why would it be a problem for anyone if he had said something neutral like, let's be grateful for what we have bla bla bla. That way everyone can decide for themselves who or what to be grateful to

That's not what I was saying. I am saying you can disagree and state your opinion without being an a-hole about it. There's no need to insult someone's views that differ from your own. That's all I'm sayin'.

Why do we have to be grateful at all?

I agree, being grateful for what you have is an excellent viewpoint to have for anyone.

No one has to be grateful, and there are a lot of people who aren't. No matter how bad you think you have it, there's someone who has it far worse than you.

Sounds like you've never been grateful to ANYBODY. And nobody has ever been grateful to you for ANYTHING.

Thanks for proving my observations that this is a terrible place to try to communicate. People don't think. They just type. Thus, the result - a spewing of personal prejudices and hatreds on the part of many without even trying to respect the other viewpoint.

The post I was referring to suggested Obama could have said we should all be grateful. Why is it the President's role to tell us all to be grateful? What right does anyone have to tell us we should be grateful?

Playing the devil's advocate, dear Ghost -- sorry that it went right over your head.

Well, he can't speak for every single person, but assuming most people are healthy and not starving, why not be grateful for that?

The guy's actions (lack of) speak loud and clear to wise folks!
Anyone who is offended or upset about this has extremely thin skin.
