When the government stops the handouts, there will be no leeches.
Okay. Let's go with that. We stop any and all hand-outs. If you cannot afford food, you are out of luck.
Now tell me, how do you think this is going to translate into real life?
Some people, apparently, are unable to find any work, no matter how hard they try - they are physically ill, mentally ill, handicapped, too old, etc.
Will those who cannot afford food simply sit on the side of the road and wait until they are dead? Or do you think that they will, perhaps, find a way to get food?
I think you might quickly find your home burglarized, your car stolen, and yourself with a gun stuck to the back of your head while all you wanted to do was eat a quick burger. As a matter of fact, you might find that your life will get a whole lot more difficult because you will be forced to avoid roaming bands of people who are about to starve, who have nothing to lose, and who will do literally anything in order to get some money/food. It is going to work wonders on your home value, your sense of security, and your quality of life, too.
I know, though: You will simply bring your gun and shoot anyone who looks at you in a challenging way. Yeah, that will make America a great place to live for all of us. Next, you will build a wall around your community, put guard towers everywhere, kick the undesirables out, and close the gates when danger arrives. Congratulations, you have just transported the US to medieval times.
You see, that's the problem: These lowlife pests won't simply sit still and await death.
We are still in a big recession with high unemployment, and a lot of your fellow citizens cannot put food on the table or find a job. If you are lucky enough to have a job, quit yer damn whining.
This is a decent topic, but the timing is terrible.
That's right, shut up about government taking out of your pocket and putting it in the pocket of someone not working. Why the hell should you get to keep what you earned? It's not like you did it yourself, you only have a dollar because of everyone else, not because you earned or deserve it so quit complaining when it's taken and given to someone else who didn't work for it.

Food stamps aren't working. We're throwing millions after millions of dollars on the food stamp program but liberal media reports more people in this country are starving to death than ever before. People sell their food stamps to buy liquor and drugs and so their children would go hungry except for the free meals they get at school.
Food stamps aren't working. It would be better to shut down the entire program and replace it with feeding centers. Since the schools now are the primary feeders of children with 2 free meals provided, just extend the cafeteria hours 2 hours and give them dinner too.
Around here the schools are considered feeding centers more than anything else, they allow the public to come eat at the school and also keep them open all summer. They could also give prepared meals out at the welfare clinics, the WIC clinics and so on but they should make sure the parents actually bring along the kids.
If they refused to work, then those would just be rest camps.
That was the criticism of some of the work progams FDR started -- but as bad as they might have beem, it gets people out of bed, it gets them dressed and out of the house to a work site. At least they have to make some little effort. Some might actually decide to do a little work and so end up being a bit productive. At least they're exposed to the idea of work, they get a little bit of a work ethic.

<scratching head>Welfare reform created a three-months-in-three-years time limit for unemployed able-bodied childless adults to receive food stamps.
What else did you expect to happen when three months of food stamps are expected to last you three years?
The real answer is anarchic-communism. Anarchic-communism makes every individual morally responsible for the survival of their community. Until we can get over the I got mine, screw everyone else mentality there will always be "lazy freeloaders".
