Exactly.

Wisconsin has a welfare migration problem. Low-/No-income are pouring into the state, and high income earners are leaving. Walker is trying to stop the downward spiral. That's why Wisconsin's taxpaying voters elected him, AND kept him in office by continuing to support him through a failed recall election.

Wisconsin had one of the five worst migration patterns in the United States from 2000 to 2006. Higher income individuals left Wisconsin. Individuals on the lowest rung of the economic ladder migrated to Wisconsin.
The Princeton report concludes simply, "Wisconsin is more attractive to low income individuals than high wage earners."
NEW REPORT SUGGESTS WISCONSIN IS STILL A WELFARE MAGNET STATE RANKS NEAR TOP IN WELFARE BENEFITS. - The Wisconsin State Journal (Madison, WI)
Quote:
Why is Wisconsin so enticing to so many poor? University of Wisconsin-Madison economics professor provided an answer in his presentation to a Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis conference on the Midwest economy during June 2008. Kennan displayed graphs showing Wisconsin dishes out the highest welfare benefits in the Midwest. You thought we ended welfare as we know it? Time limits have been placed on benefits and there are more stringent work provisions. But the size of benefits remains generous.

Factor in other benefits like child care, BadgerCare, the earned income tax credit, and low income housing, and the incentives for low-income residents to flock to Wisconsin are quite evident. The term, “welfare magnet” may have disappeared for some time in Wisconsin, but this new data seems to suggest there could be an entirely new welfare migration taking place.

This migration is clearly putting a strain on our finances. Just how much it is costing in taxes is unclear but my guess is that it is substantial and needs further study.

Meanwhile, our wealthiest leave Wisconsin, taking with them their tax revenues, spending, savings, investments, and charitable contributions. To stop people from voting with their feet in Wisconsin, we must stop the hemorrhaging of taxing and spending.

That's what we're SUPPOSED to have, specifically spelled out in the US Constitution.

Unfortunately, that's NOT what we have.

There will be Greece II. The old farts who want their free unlimited mobility scooters and never ending hip replacements, knee replacements will get a voucher from Obama...he said he liked that idea. YOu will have old farts dying early...and that does not really bother me. and probably the part of Obamacare that is ok with me..it really is ok to die folks. We can't continue these huge benefits for all. But there will be riots, lots of riots.

The government is not going to stop the leeching. Once elected the next goal is to get reelected not make the tough decisions that will benefit this country. Politicians are full of s**t. When are you people going to realize this?

Exactly. End social welfare programs and within a month the cities will burn and your safety will be in jeapordy.

Welfare programs are designed to prevent social revolution (think France 1789) and keep the masses sedated. They're not there because anyone in power cares about the poor or are bleeding heart or any such nonsense. Nobody in power, real power, gives two s***ts about the poor or any of you. You think that because that's what the media tells you. That welfare is because of bleeding heart liberals and lazy leeches. That's propaganda for the serfs.

Actually the powers that be love welfare programs. They get their better off slaves to pay for their destitute slaves while they keep more of their money. J.P. Morgan makes a mint off food stamps, they make buku buckaroos from people not being able to afford food. They love it. And the welfare programs allow the corporations to pat below subsistance wages because they know that the government will fill in the gaps from what their not paying people to afford.

Also, there are a lot of cultural destinations and fine diningin the cities. Think the Kimmel Center for the arts in Philly, Art Museum, Franklin Institute, Sports teams stadiums etc... The wealthy are among the people who like to enjoy these venues. When they go to Manhatten they don't want to worry about getting trapped in an angry mob and their safety put in danger. So they give them just enough to placate them so the people of means can enjoy their playground in peace.

And lastly there are not NEARLY, ANY WHERE CLOSE to enough quality employment opportunities in this country and probably NEVER will be again. As long as that's the case your bankster plutocratic oligarchs will make sure that the destitute, third world portion of their serfs have enough to not upset the apple cart. That is until they're ready to get rid of the useless eaters. And that includes all or most of the people who post on city-data.

The best way, IMHO, is to quickly adopt a libertarian economic policy:

Correct. End all government welfare, both corporate and individual. Encourage more private charity efforts.
