perhaps if republicans would compromise on taxation, democrats would compromise with social policy for the poor. who knows. at the very least, it would present a dilemna for Obama, and force him to choose between the poor and the middle class; exposing a weakness and creating rifts in his base.
I agree. ALL of our politicians seem to working for themselves, or someone else, and not the good of the nation.

Will those who cannot afford food simply sit on the side of the road and wait until they are dead? Or do you think that they will, perhaps, find a way to get food?
I think you might quickly find your home burglarized, your car stolen, and yourself with a gun stuck to the back of your head while all you wanted to do was eat a quick burger. As a matter of fact, you might find that your life will get a whole lot more difficult because you will be forced to avoid roaming bands of people who are about to starve, who have nothing to lose, and who will do literally anything in order to get some money/food. It is going to work wonders on your home value, your sense of security, and your quality of life, too.
I know, though: You will simply bring your gun and shoot anyone who looks at you in a challenging way. Yeah, that will make America a great place to live for all of us. Next, you will build a wall around your community, put guard towers everywhere, kick the undesirables out, and close the gates when danger arrives. Congratulations, you have just transported the US to medieval times.

Add work requirements to welfare. Able-bodied people should be required to work to receive any kind of taxpayer assistance.
Drug test all welfare recipients. If they are on drugs, then no benefits. I don't want to pay for someone's cocaine or meth habit.
Food stamps should be limited to foods that can make a meal such as chicken, beef, rice, veggies, bread, eggs, fruit, and cereal.
Eliminate drug dependency as a reason for receiving SSDI.
Require all welfare mothers to receive mandatory birth control education and counseling so she stops sleeping with jerks and finds a real man who will man up and be a father.
Stop looking down on people who stay virgins until they are married. These folks will be less likely to receive welfare benefits. When it is cool to have sex before 18, then the resulting pregnancies will result in dependency on handouts.
Men who get women pregnant out of wedlock need to man up and be a dad. Fatherhood needs to be encouraged in our culture. The man needs to take care of his responsibility. It shouldn't be placed solely on the shoulders of a woman who made the stupid choice.
Unemployment benefits need to be limited to nine months to a year. Part-time work should be mandatory or encouraged in order to receive benefits.
No more bailouts for large companies who don't manage their finances well.

Before society adopted consideration for the poors, little kids were being hanged for stealing bread, or they were made to work in factories for next to nothing. Undesirables in GB were rounded up and shipped away to Australia.

There is also the public health issue. No access to health care means no preventative care and allowing communicable diseases to run its course. Hiv...TB...Flu...allowed to run rampant. People living in squalor...cholera...small pox...typhoid epidemics.
Conservatives have a solution for this. The MIC and the increase of the police state. Why do you think conservatives always want to cut everything except the military budget and on a local level the police?
You want to get less of something, put a tax on it. Tax companies and people that receive "free stuff" from the taxpayers. Google, Apple, Microsoft want to move their money overseas to avoid paying taxes, sure go ahead, just put a tax on every dollar they move.
Some people want 99 weeks of unemployment payments? Sure, just make them buy the unemployment insurance vice the employer. See if the problem goes away.

Thanks to Reagan you can't get SSI or SSDI because of a drug addiction or obesity (it's a good thing) i'm just saying it's not been an issue since like the mid 80s. And men and women both make a stupid choice when they do that so while you say men should take responsibility, it also takes two to tango...i agreed with most of what you said though

It's amazing to me that so many people, especially the liberals, don't see any problem at all with out-of-control government spending and think that $16 trillion debt means nothing at all, there can never be any consequences of massive debt.
They really believe that a handful of wealthy can pay for everything and that rest -- the non-billionaires can live off the government -- no number living off the government could ever be too many.
They don't worry about any limitations of government spending or number of welfare recipients because they really believe nothing bad could ever happen. Their faith in government and in the government's ability to provide all for them is boundless.
