So we're supposed to give money to a state that chose to get itself into a situation where they don't have the money?
Do you seriously think a single state could set aside enough funds to recover from this kind of disaster? And how exactly did they get themselves into this situation? Did they all go to Ocean Beach and do a "hurricane dance?"
The infrastructure in New York is NOT this Texan's responsibility. Maybe if NY didn't waste most of their tax money on crap, it would be a different story.
If the feds pay 100 percent the local and state officials will go wild. It would be best to keep it at least 75 percent to try and prevent a massive fraud and theft by those local and state officials. Then they should be a disaster or hurricane tax on various utilities like cell phones, home/auto insurance, etc...Florida has one.

Considering the fact that most tax dollars come from the four states hit hardest by Sandy, I think that those states should get their money back from the government instead of having this year's dole go out to all the "recipient" states (usually the red ones).
"You" won't be "paying" anything, the states that support this country will simply get their money back:
i live in idaho.. 5000 feet above sea level and it's warm and pleasant for the time of year.. I'm lucky and fortunate... but we are the UNITED states and we help those of our own, and hope that one day they will be willing to do the same should we need it 5000 ft up... anyone complaining about their tax money helping the effort ought to be ashamed of themselves.. very un-American and selfish and uncivilized...
When Cuomo says "Washington" he means you and me. Should Obama agree to pay 100% of the cleanup ? Typical Democrat who says just print more money. All done by union workers.
Yes, it is the government's job. More so than funnelling trillions to Cheney's friends in Halliburton and Blackwater to fight illegal and unnecessary wars. What were you opinions on the Iraqi invasion before it happened? I doubt you were marching for peace.
Nope. Federal buildings. Federal interstates or related. The rest is a state matter.
