We could sell it back to Mexico and call it a day. let them deal with it. of course it would be expensive to build a wall around the state to keep them out of the US.

since they aren't much for the country might be better to just ship those that want out of the US out of the US... no one says they can take our country with them..

Texas won't go for that, and neither will the USA.

Subtract the 38 Tx electoral votes and that leaves a college of 500, 153 of which can safely be counted in the GOP column, giving the Democratic Party a lock on the White House.

At which point, facing a 194 elector deficit for the foreseeable future, the GOP will have no choice but to position itself somewhere to the left of Max Baucus and Kent Conrad. No choice, in other words, but to become a sane, moderately rightish party.

This will make America governable again, and therefore save the nation.

To save the Union, Texas must go.

It would be to the remaining U.S. like Hong Kong was to mainland China during the 70s.

History shows us that when the treaty was signed in 1845, Texas was but a small part of the whole deal.( not many people to start with back then ). It included many more territories including Calif. Had Mexico been aware that gold was found at Sutters Mill, all deals would have been off. !

In short, Texas is here to stay.

More like a 1/3rd do. Still a sizeable minority and very sad.

It is a considerably smaller portion than 1/3rd. Only 125K (or so) people signed that petition. Considering there are over 28 Million living in the state alone (not to mention, those of us who are expat Texans), that is not too many. This whole thing is way overblown and all the hatred directed at Texas is unwarranted. Texans are NOT less patriotic, but we do hold a unique sense of nationalism in that we fought for our own independence and we were our own country before we voted to join the USA.
