I tried very hard, but I can't think of any reason why a law abiding citizen would want to own an assault weapon. If your true motive for owning a gun is to protect yourself, why isn't a normal gun good enough? What's next, your own miniature nuclear bomb under the guise of "Second Amendment rights"? Where does it stop?
The law-abiding don't owe you an explanation for anything.
It is also obvious that you are a total jerk by your thoughtless remarks to someone who sounds smart enough to put aside your hateful remarks and propose a simple question and thought. Sorry, I may not be all that smart, but the day has come and gone when saneness prevails. To much, things have to change. Now you, go back to your basement and play over and over your killing machine videos, I guess that how you must get your jollies.
I don't know how you interpreted my comment, but I don't think it was in the manner in which I had intended.
What I mean is no matter how matter firearms I own, I'm not going to kill someone unless I am justified, both legally and ethically. I could come over to your house to watch the game, strapped with an M60 and 1,000 rounds of ammo and you have nothing to fear.
I'll concede that would be strange, and I'm not about to show up at your house with an M60, but it's an intentionally absurd statement meant to illustrate a point.
Ok, it was that part of your last words when you said" anyone else". I took that to mean you were speeking for other " special people" for the lack of a better word. I do get paranoid with the NRA around. This reverts back a lot of years in the Fifties, when they were trying to organize every one in my small Midwest town. I saw through their "safety" propaganda as a way to get people to join. That caused a divide in our town, over 55 years ago... Those who were for and those against. Not far from what's going on now.
I second that......no reason for any citizen to own an assault weapon.
PS--I do not know anyone who would come over to someones home with 1000 rounds of ammo...but if they did, time to call the police--clearly they are not all there.
For those in favor of banning so-called "assault rifles", I give you this. As you can clearly see, knives are responsible for more deaths than that which you seek to ban. Does that seem reasonable?
What happened in 1994 that made the homicide rate by guns plummet on your graph?
Clue: Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act
Your graph proves increased gun controls work! Thank you for showing that to us.
Your falling back on the federal definition of assault rifles, as far as I'm concerned the Bushmaster used in the killings is an assault rifle, these weapons are used to kill multiple people in a short period of time. Pistols or rifles, 10 round magazine or 30 doesn't make a difference, they can still kill very rapidly. I understand that covers many guns out there today but everything needs to be looked at in terms of regulation.
So what if the shooters gun didn't jam at Columnbine, what would be the outcome, can you think of any good reason why a law abiding citizen should have a semi-automatic with 30 rounds?
Please try to keep your massacres straight. The gun jammed at Aurora, not Columbine. None of the weapons at Columbine had high-capacity magazines.

Quite simple really, law abiding citizens should have these weapons because a) there is nothing illegal about them and b) the citizens that aren't law abiding have them and will continue to have them long after any ban is put into effect, and when push comes to shove most of us would prefer that the proverbial playing field be at least somewhat level.
I'll put it in very simple terms.
When 9/11 happened, we didn't blame the airplanes. We blamed the hijackers (some blamed the government, but most of us who still have our sanity and common sense blamed the actual perpetrators).
When Pearl Harbor happened, we didn't blame the boats and planes that were used, we blamed the Japanese military and government.
When Oklahoma City happened, we didn't blame truck rental companies, fertilizer manufacturers, or gas station attendants. We blamed Timothy McVeigh, who perpetrated the crime.
I'm not sure at what point in history people decided to start blaming the tools that were used to commit the atrocities rather than the nutjobs who actually committed the crimes, but I am sure that removing the tools won't stop the violence. Humans have been killing other humans since time began, and they managed to do it perfectly well long before firearms were widely available. I'll repeat it again, since it's a point that seems to be eluding you and many others: removing firearms will not stop violence.
As I've said over and over, if you want to address the true cause of violence in this country, rather than jumping on the "we have to do something now to make us feel like we did something" bandwagon, you'll push for societal change in the way that we treat the mentally ill as well as the way that we raise our children.
I want an assault rifle because I may one day have to break the law...
When the Capitalists decide I have to go to a "camp" for the color of my skin or our furher Obama institutes martial law, I may need to do something about it. We need to have an armed populace, because that is the best defense against tyranny and is necessary for revolution.
When working class people are armed and dangerous, it will make the Pigs in power hesitate before cracking down on us. If I we the working class have to break to law to achieve freedom, than so be it. What part of "by any means necessary" don't you understand?
Delusional and paranoid people should not be allowed to own guns. Remember, it is the person, not the gun.............
