Man, I used to tell myself I came away stupider every time I read this forum, but I'm not sure if there is a "beyond stupid" designation I can attribute these days.
Why do couples stay married after they stop having sex?
I have asked my straight friends that very question. My partner and I do not have sex, but we still got married. One friend has been married to her husband for at least 45 years and I asked her when they last had sex and she said it has been over 10 years now and her husband has no desire for sex or a desire to use viagra or any other enhancement drugs. Another couple I know are also past the 40 year mark and they sleep in separate bedrooms and another couple also stopped having sex over 10 years ago because the wife has no interest in sex. I find it happens with many straight couples and gay couples too. Just because the sex is gone, does not mean the love is gone.
without a kid being produced, then marriage is pointless - I mean, what is the point?
Some people see it as the ultimate step in a relationship. Children regardless.
And as long as government recognizes that step for one group of adults, it needs to recognize that step for any group of adults able to legally consent.

They do that already in hetero marriage.
One prime example is a hetero person who wants to stay in the US marrying a US citizen so that he / she can get greencard. I saw this alot.

Yes single people (both straight and gay) have less right.
However, if a straight person wants "to obtain more benefit" as how you claim it, they can get married.
So gay people should have the same rights.
