Washington already has its nose in this. To the tune of 1.1 billion dollars and the only real term was that they didn't move against a democratically elected government which is exactly what they have done. Never once did you hear the administration warn that funding would be cut off or do you now hear it under that agreement. I don't think its loss on the Muslim world. It will effect every where we are calling on Muslims to give up arms and join in the democratic process. Heck this administration can't even say the word Coup.
Are they nuts? Why would America expect that sticking the word "election" and "democracy" on a situtation that you would get western style results...It took hundreds of years for democracy to develop - I can imagine the "election" and the so -called democratic process that got the Brotherhood in there...coercion - threat controlling who voted and who did not....of course they tampered with the process...Obviously if they were a truly elected government - They would still be in place. Let the military rule - a benevolent military dictatorship is still better than an American backed Muslim theocracy. Egyptians have some vision...they really don't want to see heads roll in the name of Ahlah.
Why the difference in attitude and approach by Obama? Could it possibly be Morsi's obvious hatred of Israel, and Mubarak's moderate attitude?
I hate Israel, but I would prefer Mubarak to Morsi if I lived in Egypt.
Acknowledging that, a more likely explanation for the "difference in attitude and approach" is that Mubarak was an autocrat who could not hold onto power no matter what, and therefore was no longer any use to us. We also simply could not tell Mubarak "smash the pro-democracy side, Tienanmen-style, and we're ok with it" and maintain any credibility in human rights whatsoever.
Morsi was at least a legitimate president in the beginning, and it would be unusual for one head of state to demand the military deposition of another elected head of state, no matter how much of a prick he is. Especially when he is the leader of an important strategic partner who has not broken his country's treaty with us.
Some people talk of democracy but hate the first true democracy in the mideast ...some talk of a strategic partner when Israel has the God of Abraham behind them...I chose Israel God's chosen people as the mideasts model democracy let Egypt find her own course and stay out of it.
The Army said the MB may be locked out of the next set of elections.
The Obama administration supported the Brotherhood before the military coup that ousted Mubarek.
Records show that the Brotherhood has been invited to the WH since 2009 when Obama first came into office.
Actually that article says US has not taken a side in the fight and is not, and has not suppoted any political party over another in Egypt. A lot of people have visited the WH, many friendly and some less friendly and some even sworn enemies of US. A visit does not mean we support them.
The USA only backs dictatorships in the Middle East thats why they are once again confused.
Is Israel a dictatorship? I think our support for free elections in Egypt and Palestine were in good faith, altough the outcome was not in best interest of the US.

There is nothing else to back in the Middle East, Islam means submission, it is not about free thinking or choice or anything required to have a democracy.
