because they're burger flippers. why not work on making ghettos better places to live for those who can only afford to live in these places. when low income, mostly low skilled people are moved into middle class and upper middle class areas, what do the middle class and upper middle class residents get out of the deal?
Why can't we come up with ways to let in 'good' low-income people while excluding 'bad' low-income people? Why do the good people have to be excluded when they're not the ones causing the problems?
You're not being "excluded" when the reason you can't live in a certain area is because you can't afford it......

sure you are.
all kids should get the same chance.
seems like you want poor people to stay where they are. poor parents have kids that are poor that wont get the services needed to move upward. they do dumb things, have a kid as a teenager and become poor and on and on and on. vicious cycle.
from what i infer from your conversation in this thread, is that you want that built in advantage of being middle class where your kids will get a good education and move you up to the upper class.
that advantage you have is threatened if poor people get the chance to have the same opportunities as you and your kids.

The advantage I have living in a middle class/lower middle class neighborhood is earned by having a decent paying job. My wife also has a decent paying job. You see, we both have worked very hard to be able to live where we do, and it is nothing special, but you do not see my here comaining about others opportunities. Maybe people who do not like living in poor areas should change something in their lives so that they can move.
So when am I getting moved to a wealthy area so I can have all the advantages of wealthy people?
I'll be waiting diligently for a check from you to pay for a million dollar house in a 900+ API school district so I can have the same advantages.

There is no "built in advantage" amongst the middle class. Whatever "advantage" you think they have was through sacrifice, hard work, education, culture and not depending on government to get where they are.
Many people from the poverty level broke the cycle when they were determined that there was more to life but they had to go out and earn it. They learned from their surroundings, or they had good parents, and if not, possibly a good mentor. They were the strong ones who wanted more and knew that not getting in trouble with the law, by not getting pregnant, not fathering a baby, not using drugs and getting an education was the way up and out. And through education and/or skills they worked themselves up to middle-upper middle class.
Explain to me who gains from this shifting and what are the gains? Is this going to be a win-win?
And people are complaining about their houses worth less then they did a few years ago
Wait until their houses are worth less when this goes into affect!
if they do, you would not be opposed to lower income kids moving to your neighborhood, getting that solid education your kid gets and becoming productive citiziens.
i think many of you believe these kids are lost causes from the minute they are born.
i say give them a chance, let them move in and get the same opportunities your kids get.

conservatives say sorry, tough luck.
I am wondering where in the constitution it says life is fair?
Children in low income still get an education, probably free breakfast, lunch and dinner, their parents get subsidized housing, low or no cost utilities, free food, free or low cost day care, free or low cost health care amoung many other subsidies. But this is some how not enough and I need to now pay for them to live next door to me.

All kids deserve the same chance, they also deserve to have parents that care enough to see that they get that chance, but chit happens.
Did I not ask you a few questions that you can't seem to answer or ignore because you don't have an answer. No problem.

So yes, I say sorry tough luck.
Clearly, the most important thing they don't have, can't be given, and certainly can't be taught is good parenting, self-respect and dignity.
