Conservatives do not love big government, but mainstream Republicans sure seem to love it. Republicans give conservatives a bad name.
That is just a cop out though. If conservatives truly disliked big government then they would not consistently vote for big government politicians, but they do. The question is why, and the only reasonable conclusion is because either they do like big government and are just hypocrites or there aren't any conservatives - in which case it wouldn't matter what conservatives want.
Now you could say the TP is conservative and for small government, but that isn't true in the slightest. The TP loves the military, Medicare, SS, and passing anti abortion laws. So it is really just a case of "spending for me not for thee". I don't personally mind paying taxes, but I'm not going to pay taxes just for old people.

Yes, conservatives do love big government. This is not my opinion. conservatives love the largest federal government programs. This is shown in poll after poll of conservatives.
In fact, when polled conservatives want to cut very few government programs.
People don't know what the hell their ideology is. If conservatives truly outnumbered liberals in 49 out of 50 states the Senate and Presidency would not be controlled by Democrats
Has it escaped your attention that those are the people that went through the primary process and were selected by conservatives?
The media seems to be in charge of selecting the candidate which is a great shame. I'll never forget how they ignored Ron Paul in 2008 and zoomed in on McCain and Romney as if they were the only candidates. At that time Ron Paul was the only candidate who made any sense, but they wouldn't let him speak during the primaries.
No, McCain and Romney were selected by people that voted in primaries, but what are you trying to say? Are you trying to say that Obama won because he is more conservative than McCain or Romney? Or, are you saying that conservatives don't vote in the Republican primary?
I suppose the latter could be the case given how few people identify as Republican.

Kind of like the people who swear they aren't Communists or Socialists but continually keep voting them in.
Meanwhile, no one complains about the "food stamps" (tax relief) provided to dozens of corporations like the oil and gas industry (they are suffering so, so much) which amounts to almost 50% more than all the welfare provided in the nation today.
Why do people keep repeating stuff like this?
There's plenty of objections to a lot of other things the government spends money on.
When a thread is about a certain subject, it's not the place for other complaints.
The thread is about a govt program. How is govt behavior not relevant?
