I wouldn't have any doctors. My daughter would loose about half of her friends in LA who work in the industry (they are from all over the world), and there would be few places to eat out.

Would this eventually be good for America because we would all speak a common language and share a common culture, or bad for America because we would lose the skills and talents of the foreign born residents? Your thoughts.

Now the illegals is another matter.

americans know how to use a smartphone, they can't create an app or create a network though.

there are plenty of skilled jobs available in this country, the problem is Americans are not skilled enough for the positions. we are a service based country, restaurants, fast food, retail, thats what we do well.

i get tired when i hear of conservatives talking about immigrants taking skilled jobs away for the following reasons i listed.

they would hire americans if americans could do the job. they cant.

As Joe Wilson said, "You lie!".

We need those people to do these jobs like road construction or roofing that we do not want to do for $10 a hr without them this country could not function

Native-born Americans do not share a common culture.

The OP assertion was based at least partly on the erroneous idea that everyone born in the US shares a common language and culture.

Those jobs pay $10 an hour BECAUSE immigrants do them for less money. Before we had this mass influx of labor from the third world who were willing to work for peanuts, construction and roofing were well-paying jobs. Window washers in downtown probably made more money in the '70s than they do now, and I'm not just talking about compared to today's dollars. I mean, literally making more money per hour or at least as much per hour as they do at present. Those guys who do that job now are risking their lives for practically minimum wage, with no benefits most of the time.

I grew up in a border state, so I really have no problem with Hispanics. I have many Hispanic friends. Our whole culture in Texas is intertwined with Mexico's. I agree with the poster from Georgia - 1st generation speaks Spanish and works their butts off to get a foothold here; 2nd generation goes to college and embraces the American dream; 3rd generation are just like every other American and most likely don't even speak Spanish. They are just another ethnic group in America that retains it's culture and food, but is as American as apple pie (i.e., Italian, Irish, Polish).

I think there should be some immigration reform, but we need to stop just allowing anyone to come here. There is a correlation between lower wages and too many people in the labor market. We already lose manufacturing jobs to the developing world, so why should we allow millions of low-skilled immigrants to compete for the crumbs left to us? Not everyone is cut out for STEM.
