It is hard for anyone to give up hope especially for children. Don't we all pray for miracles when someone we love life is on the line. I can understand even though I know better.
A miracle does not need advanced life support machines to keep a corpse from decomposing. Perhaps this family could have given life to about 4 other children by donating her organs instead.
End of life medical law isn't my forte, but it should be the family's call when/if the plug is pulled as long as they are footing the bill.
That is absolutely correct.
In my medical practice of over 30 years in AZ I have only had one death like this where the family could not make the decision to pull the plug on a medically proven brain dead patient. So on their dime they flew the body back on life supports to Boston to their primary care doc.
Hoonose, they flew the body back on a ventilator. There was no life to support. That may seem like nitpicking, but it goes to the crux of Jahi's mother's inability to believe her daughter is dead.
Do you know what happened to your patient after the transfer?

Yes the patient was dead. But a ventilator, IV's and accompanying nurse are life supports.
I never heard back.
