Our society has turned into an very arrogant one. Most people know better than to act out bad behavior but choose to do it anyway in a very "in-your-face" manner. I regret one of these were killed but I feel more regret for the person, who like most of us, has had about as much as they can stand.
This event just goes to show that texting can really be bad for you health.
IMO, I think we need a law where if a person is in a public place where cell phones/texting is prohibited and they use they cell phone or text then the general public should have the right to take their cell phone and shove it up their ass.

Or.....theater management should have insisted the young whippersnapper geek wannabee put his plastic toys away or leave.
Evidence at this point is non-existent. But the draw-and-quarter-the-shooter crowd can't connect the dots on that little fact.
We're having no problem connecting the dots as they are presented by first responders, the many witnesses, theater staff, arresting officers, preliminary hearing judge, and the various news agencies.
It would seem you're the one being more than slightly obtuse in your desire to further chum the waters. Is it that you need more dots or that you simply have an empty day to fill.

The theater's rules are that cell phone use and texting are not allowed in the auditorium. If the guy reported the texter to management and they did nothing, then his beef should be with the management failing to enforce their own rules.
It would seem the texter was flouting the rules and mouthing off to the shooter. If it is true he had been annoyed by texters in the theater before, and then this guy who was doing it started getting in his face, he must have just snapped.
Next time the screen flickers "Turn off your cellphones" then DO IT.

Firearms are also prohibited from the theater, I noticed you ignored that little tidbit.

He may have snapped, or he may have thought the popcorn in the face was the first move in a physical attack. It may have been. We'll never know.
I still dont get why texting in a theater would bother anyone as all you are doing is moving your thumbs..
I keep seeing posts like this one so I guess I'll answer it. Having been seated behind people who're texting and also listening to various theaters admonitions against using one's phone for texting during the film it comes down to the screen brightness causing a distraction.
I can tell you that it certainly distracts and annoys me as I'm sure it does others because your eyes are drawn to the bright light that you then have to try to ignore. Kind of like movement in your peripheral vision makes you look.
Imbecile gun nut, impotent, ignorant, frustrated, washed-up, and over-the hill, initiated an alteration with a patron knowing that such an altercation could possibly lead to his using his gun. So the Neanderthal did a George Zimmerman. He initiated the altercation because he has a problem with people texting in a movie theater, and escalated the confrontation so he could use his weapon. What a pathetic human being.

You do know that this guy was a former swat commander? He took his LEO invincible attitude into the movie theater.
If he was still a cop he probably wouldn't be facing charges as he had a magic uniform.
