Why should the government know you have a gun in the first place? Them knowing serves what purpose relative to you exercising your natural individual right to keep and bear arms?
I shouldnt be required to report my guns being stolen. It's my property and my freedom to report the theft or not.
That being stated I would report them stolen. Many of the guns I own have significant collector value and sentimental value and I would want them back if recovered. Again though the state should not be telling me whether or not I should report them missing.

Precisely. They should not know, and I take great pains to ensure that they never know.
Reporting it stolen won't stop it from being used in a crime.
Wrong.EXAMPLE: The cops two streets over catch two kids breaking into a house. They stole your guns last week. You reported it so the cops know about it. They grill the little thieves and they admit that your Ar-15 is out in a tree house out in the woods next to their housing addition. When they arrive to the tree house they find a even younger kid fooling around with the rifle and pointing it at friends.
After further interrogation one kid admits to planning on shooting up his school.

You obviously have never worked in law enforcement, if you have or do your interview and interrogation skills/training leave you wanting.
A locked door is sufficient, matter of fact inside my home should be sufficient. You're trying to lay the blame of criminal act on the victim, if someone comes in and steals a bunch of jewelry and you don;t realize it fro 2 weeks are you to blame for not realizing it? Most people keep their weapons in a safe or locked gun cabinet but they aren't all going to be in there. It's not doing you any good in safe if you need it, most gun owners are going to have at least one weapon easily accessible but out of sight.
About 98% of people i know that own guns do not own a gun safe.Actually i only know two people. One owns part of a gun shop and the other is a farmer but he leaves a rifle on the window rack in his driveway and keys in ignition.

You are promoting the idea that the police should do their job and investigate whether or not two people breaking into homes are in any related to other crimes.

This is common police procedure.
I think you are just trolling and not being serious at all. Stick to the tread and quit trying to twist an example.
I've heard people saying they would report their guns stolen even when they haven't been. (Filing a false police report is a crime, so don't do it.)
