If the Iraq Army that we trained for years numbering a few hundred thousand is ineffective in their own country why do we expect other countries to jump into the fray

We don't belong there, time to cut our losses.

I feel sorry for the innocent people that are being killed as a result of these vicious terrorists and we should help where we can but this is the Iraq governments problem, not ours. We set up Maliki for success and he destroyed our good will, it's their problem.
Yes. We make a Shia muslim the president of the country where Sunnis are a majority. Thats a real recipe for success. Are we being effing serious here?

Actually the Shia are the majority in Iraq. The power under Saddam was with the minority Sunni.

The Vietnamese are quite capable fighters. The Legion has had better success in Africa.

Our administration is the epitome of "JV". He'll do well to shut up and listen to the military and foreign service professionals (not the useless appointees).

"Why does it seem like we are half-assing the efforts to destroy ISIS?"

I dunno, perhaps it's because we are getting mixed signals. We have a leader who is telling ISIS to pin notes to captives shirts instead of beheading them. Does he really think ISIS is going to follow his advice. It's just feels weird.

Any fight against ISIS is gonna feel halfass.

That's because you don't even know who these people are. You're fighting a phantom.

That's why we need to stay home.

My bad then. I thought it was the other way around.

It's not expected that the average American would know the complex tribal relationships in that part of the world. It's a study in itself.

Well, they are clearly not chopping off heads, but they are no different than ISIS. Their methods are different but the fundamentals are the same, no freedom of religion is tolerated, everyone must follow their strict Islamic law or be punished.
