These people huh?
Emigrations it hasn't been that long ago you were one of 'these people' bitching about your barely above minimum wage job in a call center here. Now 'these people' are somehow inferior to you because you were able to step up to a better paying job and they haven't?

That would depend on what one's standards are. If the job offered and the terms under which one accepts such employment are beneath the standards one finds acceptable, then why would the job be accepted? Move on and find another - or adjust your standards.

What's the common denominator here? You.

Of course many are grouchy. Minimum wage workers often have to work not 1, but 2-3 other jobs, working 7 days a week day and night. I had a friend who was like that. Working 3-4 low wage jobs, 2-3 hours of sleep. One time fell asleep behind the wheel and nearly slammed into a bus full of kids.

If you actually read the entire thread, someone asked me a variation of this question awhile back. The problem is a local issue. Hardly anyone makes decent money in the Tri-Cities. The place is depressed and even people with skills that would pay a normal wage in areas with a normal economy are going to make peanuts in the Tri-Cities. It's a bad place to be.

If you have motivation and more skill than a burger flipper, you leave places like the Tri-Cities for a normal area.

Are we going to include being careless about producing more kids? Big screen TV? Cell phone? XBox? Cable/Sat hooked up to that big screen? Nikes for the kids? Sports programs for the kids? Internet at home? High cost/low nutritional value fast foods? Eating out? Manicures and hair salons? Clubbing? Weed?

The "poor" in this country are rock-star rich compared to the poor elsewhere in the world.

There are honest, truly poor, but there are also those who are officially poor, yet do okay when assistance is counted in.
