Tragic, tragic accident that reinforces the importance of gun safety, especially around children.

I am a believer that the holster is as important as the gun. The link does not give much detail, but perhaps this was a case of Plaxico Burress syndrome. None my guns could be extracted from their holsters by a 2-year-old. As CCW permits proliferate no doubt there is a need for education of gun safety.

So all you gunnies are going on a rage to modify the second so you can bear arms only if properly trained?

I don't think so.

My idea of gun safety is to stay away from guns. Trouble is, so many people have them. Why, I just heard about a 29 year old woman in Wal-Mart with her toddler, and she had a lethal weapon! I bet it turned out badly.

"No safety on the weapon". Yeah well, no safety around weapons. They do what they're made to do. But I don't think there'll be a resolution here that will please everyone.

Kid pulled the gun from her purse and killed her in a freak accident. Probably isn't a good idea to keep a loaded pistol in your purse next to a toddler
Or to shop at Walmart. Not the store's fault, But it's starting to look like a kill spot.

Wtf. Jackass.
You beat me to it. She had a chambered, unholstered gun, without the safety on. Could not have been a double action, the kid would not have been able pull the trigger. Even in the purse it should have been in a holster that covers the trigger.
It should not be mandated, but if you choose to buy a firearm for the first time, get some quality training.

When I was 2 I had trouble pulling the pull tab off a can of Bud, much less pulling a trigger. And even when I could, my aim was awful.

You have to wonder why she really needed a handgun. Idaho? Yeah, it's a( legal) gun culture and its the seventh safest state to live in, crime wise. I know, its safe BECAUSE its a gun culture. Granted.
Assuming it was a revolver, the child might have been able to take off the safety. If it was a semi automatic, then I strongly doubt he could have chambered a round. It sounds like she had a round chambered or the safety off or both. That was careless and stupid. But then again we're back to it being Idaho. How dangerous is a small town in Idaho? She may have been from out of the area visiting relatives according to the article. Having a gun around a toddler was stupid.
